Of course, I’m trained and quite proficient with guns, knives, my hands, and yes, even scissors if necessary. My preferred defense tool is a 500 Magnum, a weapon that surely would’ve relocated this gentleman from the front seat of my car to somewhere across the parking lot…probably in multiple pieces. While I prefer to use my hands (I am a registered Black Belt), I love the blood and gore created by a gun. Using a gun also sends a clear message that I am not one to be trifled with. While the lady, on the other hand plainly admits she is not trained in weaponry, I’m sure she will seek that type of knowledge now. She should. Her reactions were that of a well honed fighter…rare in amateur defenders. I’m also sure that, since this was Berkeley, the Marines at the local Marine Recruiting Station would probably have been more than willing to defend her, even though she was probably one of the ones at the protest rallys AGAINST the Marines having a station in Berkeley. I participated in those protest because I don’t want uniformed killers and murderers in Berkeley.

I do have one very serious complaint. Her language was vulgar. While the news station bleeped out the nasty words, it was obvious what she was saying. Even in stuations as dire as this, a lady should always control her tongue.

When seconds count the police are only minutes away. If more people were properly armed and fought back street crime would be far lower than it is. Violent crime IS lower in the 40 states where people can carry, especially concealed. Training is great, and I’ve had some. Most of that training was about a mindset of self-defense rather than about the physical training. Oh, physical training, too, but it doesn’t matter what you know how to do if your inhibitions keep you from using it.

The worst thing, the most immoral thing, is to tell people that they are helpless, to *train* them to be helpless.

And fighting back is always the best thing to do… for women, children, anyone at all… if there is a chance that the bad guy is going to *transport you*.

There was a woman carjacked here in Albuquerque, I believe it was with her child in the car. He drove around with her for two days, raping her several times, before she managed to get the attention of someone to help her. She lucked out in that she lived rather than fed the coyotes.

There was another carjacking in the Bay Area when I lived there… murdered an old man who went to my church. A man got in his car when he was paying for gas and stabbed his wife. The old man from our church went in the car to save his wife. He succeeded.

That old man, dear Arjuna, had more balls and more honor than anyone I have ever known.

I teach high school in suburban Houston, Tx. Once we were talking about looting and defending against looters, in the wake of Hurricanes such as Katrina.

I had told my kids that when Rita was bearing down on us a few years back, only a few weeks after Katrina had smacked New Orleans, the images of the utter breakdown of civil government and society itself, was one of the reasons I had become an “active supporter of the second amendment.”

I was thinking more in terms of putting yourself in danger to protect property in a case where it really is optional. I wasn’t trying to suggest that a person should respond passively or ought to, for even a moment, assume that all an attacker wants is your purse.

I support the laws passed that say a person is never required to abandon their home. And yes, if someone is trying to take your stuff, they’re not likely to have qualms against doing you violence. And you’ve got NO responsibility to WAIT TO FIND OUT if they’re really going to hurt you or not. You’ve a moral right to assume, when attacked, that your attacker wants you raped and dead, and the moral right to respond with deadly force.

This is another all too frequent case of “White on Black Crime.” This carjacker shouldn’t have to look too far to find an A.C.L.U. lawyer to sue this lezzie for perpetrating a hate crime. At least Obama’s white grandmother had the good sense to go to the other side of the street(typical white person’s reaction, as the Messiah so proclaimed) when she saw a black fellow. The police can kiss the backsides of citizens who are fed up with this kind of bull. They have no right to say “don’t fight back!” That’s what’s wrong with this country.
