Bush: Problem Is Not Capitalism

President George W. Bush defends free markets in a speech in Manhattan, saying the answer to current economic woes is not to reinvent the system but to fix problems, make reforms and move forward with capitalist-based principles.

Capitalism is the only solution. Had these horrid GSEs been shut down long ago we wouldn’t be facing a depression. I still don’t like this idea of bailouts. Bush listened to two Obama supporters, Paulson and Bernanke, just like he listened to another, C. Powell, and with the idiots he surrounded himself with in his first term he’s leaving a terrible legacy. The foreclosures should’ve been allowed. The bankruptcies too. They could’ve audited banks individually (like they did in ‘87), eliminated mark to market provisions, done away with the Capital Gains tax and repealed Sarbanes-Oxley. Instead he listened to these Obama backers and they slammed him and this country needlessly. It started worse in ‘87, but RR didn’t go on TV and create a panic. I really feel for GWB. Without 9-11 and bad advisors he would’ve left a fantastic legacy.

President Bush,
This country doesn’t get it, sorry! Those that voted for Obama are either spoiled post-depression by-products who were spoiled their whole life, or black folks who were duped by the democrats that they were too stupid to get up and go to work! The black folks were told that they needed government to ‘take care of them’ because they weren’t bright enough to do anything without them. The black folks are dilusional if they think that they are any more than a ‘vote’ to put through the democrats big government ideology!
Unfortunately they never got the memo from republicans that they could have always had the opportunity to run for office, get a job, and enjoy the american dream! I would venture to guess that there isn’t one slave alive today!!
Capitalism is what makes our country the greatest country on the face of the earth, and allowed to flourish, helps the whole world, and has!
President Bush, it’s too bad you had to put out the ‘fires’ Clinton started, and the results of his horrible presidency, which resulted in the worst disaster, 9/11. We know you had to rebuild the military, refund them, and finish what clinton neglected!
Funny thing though, Obama hates the military, but he’s all gun-ho to create 2 civilian forces and fund them like the military!
He may be compared to FDR, but we all who know history (which isn’t taught truthfully in schools) that FDR was a socialist – so there it is Mr. President, we copped out, capilalism is just too hard for the democrats, they don’t get it, don’t understand it, and they never will – We, who believe in democracy will miss you sir!

IrishKay, I like the last sentence of your post the most. I’ve often wondered about this. Is it that they’re stupid and don’t understand the basics of a free market system or do they really desire to undermine capitalism in the hope of replacing it? From what I’ve seen it must be a little of both for those on the left that consider themselves ‘moderate’. I heard about this restaurant the other day that lets people pay what they want. It’s somewhere in Utah. The owner is seeking bailout money. You’ve got to wonder.

The markets have not been free for the past 100 years. Socialism caused the problems, and socialist greed exacerbated them.

Bush was up their pushing for that bailout telling us there was no other way. So if Socialism is so bad, you can blame Bush right off the bat. Bush has made mistake after mistake and bankrupted our country with his bone-headed Iraq War. Poor little George. He was the big man strutting around like cock of the walk. Now we learn from the Republicans that it was all Clinton’s fault. Oh yeah, I guess that surplus Bush was left by Clinton really screwed him up so much that Bush had to get rid of it as fast as possible. Everything Bush has done has gone wrong, and the Republicans are still trying to blame Clinton. Poor George had six years of total control of Congress and still couldn’t get it right. Bush thought nothing of passing executive orders in the middle of the night without consulting anyone – now we are suppossed to believe all of what is happening now is Clinton’s fault. Come on, no one is buying that. If Bush didn’t like a certain piece of legislation, he certainly had plenty of time to have it changed. I don’t recall anything standing in Bush’s way when he wanted to revoke certain environmental protections.

Bush,

Thanks for 9/11, Iraq,
and The Great Depression 2.0.
We’ll take it from here.

Nick, ummm, Bush didn’t cause 9-11 but he has kept us pretty safe from another. Nick, ummm, this toppling of dominoes was started by one big domino in the form of GSEs created, managed and fed by Democrats. For all of his shortcomings he did try to prevent this. If you want transcripts of congressional records I can provide them. I’ll give you Iraq.

I repeat, for numb-nut Nick…

The markets have not been free for the past 100 years. Socialism caused the problems, and socialist greed exacerbated them.

Where in that statement did I exonerate George W. Bush of blame? You “O”-fers can’t overcome your hatred of the man. That obsession will impede the Barrack Hussein Obama White House… err, I should say Nut House from a successful reign.

I’m not going to hate BHO as you hate GWB, because hatred is self-damaging. However, I will remain a skeptic, and a non-supporter until HE proves he is up to the task with positive leadership. The onus is on HIM to prove himself to ME. I did not vote for him, but I pay his damn salary!

Rohm Emanuel, Chief of Staff? Hillary Rodham Clinton for Secretary of State?…… So much for “HOPE & CHANGE”. What sucker’s you all are!

grik   November 14th, 2008 - 7:32 pm

If Socialism caused all the problems how come this problem occured after Bush and his GOP gremlins deregulated the financial system.

It’s pure nonsense. Everyone and everything needs to follow rules. An unfettered market is just as bad as Communism. Extremes are for extremists.

Bill5321   November 14th, 2008 - 11:33 pm

Bush has had it hard for 8 years.

At least we have been safe for the past 7 years.

Thank you IrishKey.

I am pleased to see a man stand up and defend what is right after 52% of the people voted for socialism’s delusion.

Yes, GWB we will miss you.
