Congressional Leaders Signal Ailing Auto Industry Won’t Go Down

CBS News: Last month, Congress approved $25 billion in low-interest loans for domestic automakers and suppliers to retool plants to build fuel efficient vehicles. But congressional allies of the industry have said the money will not be available fast enough to help the companies.

ENOUGH OF THESE PANDERING BAILOUTS!
There are many examples of responsible auto makers and workers in this country and around the world that make product and profit.
I refuse to support and help pay for the retirement benefits of Union Auto Workers who make entirely too much money anyway! I buy affordable cars i.e. used and maintain them – usually foreign made. Take that UAW!
It’s irresponsible to assume that I would in any way want to help out a Union/Democrat leadership in an example state like Michigan. I am originally from Michigan and I say screw em’!!
There are other things that can happen first – reduce regulations and union agreements allowing for more energy effecient vehicles. Ford has a car that is selling like gang busters in Europe that has a diesel engine that get’s 60+ MPG….
Why can’t we buy it here? The engine is built overseas because of Union Agreements that won’t allow for it to be built here and maintain affordability. Also the diesel engine makes sense due to the lower cost for diesel refining vs. gasoline.
Wake up people! Call your representaives and tell them no to another bailout! Especially one that is biased and bloated due to extreme Union Workers who simply do not earn their high wages.
If this passes – all of us are responsible to ensure that any official that votes for it should be voted out as soon as possible – regardless of their party affiliation.
The second concern for all Americans is to start a “True Grassroots” movement for – TERM LIMITS!
These pigs have stood at the foodline of power and coruption for too long – the only way to cure all of our problems if to limit their time gorging themselves at our expense.
Seriously!

The “bailing” generally ceases after the ship has gone down. Victimized by poor products, poor decisions and poor, overpaid, union labor. $73/hr? Not bad duty, IF you can get it. Me thinks only while the corporation is actually functioning.

The Big 3 can not survive with the union.

Biden 2009!   November 9th, 2008 - 12:10 pm

Looks like a daunting task for President Biden in 2009.

Biden 2009!
Yes We Can!

gee, I’d really love to buy one of those overpriced behemoth vehicles…that is, IF I HAD A JOB!!!!

Too many unemployed people in this country, and it is getting worse every day.

I am afraid for the future of this great nation, and I have little faith in our leaders to help in any meaningful way.

ManBearPig   November 9th, 2008 - 12:45 pm

And what is Congress going to do when the automakers come back 6 months from now asking for another 50 billion?
It is pretty obvious that this decision will be based on politics and not on economic reality. I say no to any more bailouts. Bad management and greedy unions got them into this, and they should suffer the consequences.

Eagle Eye   November 9th, 2008 - 12:50 pm

according to al gore and Nancy the american public should’nt even buy these gas guzzler’s.
Why bail them out if we should,nt buy them

The libtards must be share holders of big auto

Airwick   November 9th, 2008 - 2:40 pm

Hey, Eagle Eye, your hero, Sean Hannity, loves GM. He “just bought an Escalade hybrid” from “our friends over at GM”. I’ll bet that he is all for a bail out for them since they are sponsors of his show!

I always thought he was a “tard” of some sort. What is the right wing equivalent of “libtard”?

How about “neoconpoop”?

HEY, BAIL *US* OUT!   November 9th, 2008 - 3:09 pm

Hey, U.S. how about bailing out those of us who have worked all our lives and paid all our bills, nearing retirement, watching our 401Ks evaporate, and seeing our house values plummet…

WHERE IS OUR BAILOUT????????

Let those big automakers sink if they cannot figure out how to make a car that will sell and make them a profit. Let those over-paid workers find a new way to make $$.

WHERE does the Govt. think they will be GETTING THOSE TAX DOLLARS TO PAY FOR ALL THIS BAILOUT-OF- LARGE-CORPS CRAP, when nobody has a job any more so there’s nobody paying taxes????

Guess they will just keep on printing worthless paper money?!

Dont Worry Auto Makers..   November 9th, 2008 - 4:12 pm

Us taxpayers will bail you out, the same way we did the banks and home owners, and as we are about to do for the people that dont pay their credit cards ( announced today the congress wants to bail out banks credit card accounts ) and as obama will have us do for anyone that wants to go to a DR or Dentist and not pay their bill.

Us tax payers will bail everyone out untill we are all working for the government, they will keep all the wages and we will live on what they give us, Gov provided food, housing, medicine, etc. Like one big cult where the members give all power and all posessions to the leader.

Oh and dont forget...   November 9th, 2008 - 4:15 pm

We also bail out Amtrack every year, millions and millions, if it cant make a profit it needs to go to someone that can make it work or it deserves to fail and be shut down.

grik   November 9th, 2008 - 4:44 pm

There are too many other business (many mom and pop operations) dependent on the auto industry for them to let them fail when they just bailed out Wallstreet.

If they had national health care these companies would not be in such dire straights trying to pay for heath care for all of their retirees. Its going to come sooner or later.

Once in our great US History – we had slavery – that was wrong and evil.
We overturned that and have now voted in a person of color into our highest office. We are all better for that.
During that time of slavery – we also had companies who ran amuck and abused employees – we got Unions – that was a good thing.
While on one hand we grew out of slavery – we have also grown out of Unions…..they are the evil within now and are a horrible leach on the economic success of our country. Let’s not bail them out – let’s abolish them and allow for the auto makers to do their own thing to make a profit.
And you know what? If they become abusive then we can organize again and knock them down.
Unions and slavery – similar in their burden on America….we’ve shaken the Etch-A-Sketch on slavery….
Let’s shake the Union Etch-A-Sketch and start over with a clean slate.
NO to a UNION LEACH BAIL OUT!

LIAR HENRY PAULSON SAID   November 10th, 2008 - 12:19 am

Paulson said that we need to fix the core problem that caused all this, he identified the core problem as being the Real Estate market.

GUESS WHAT?

BAILOUT #1 = WALLSTREET (Crooks & Thieves)

BAILOUT #2 AMERICAN BANKS

BAILOUT #3 AMERICAN AUTOMAKERS

HEY HANK, WHERE IS THE BAILOUT FOR THE SO-CALLED CORE PROBLEM BUDDY, THE REAL ESTATE MARKET, HUH?

I HOPE AMERICA FALLS FLAT ON ITS ASS!

And a CIVIL UNREST unfolds!

No More Bailouts   November 10th, 2008 - 3:48 am

Why bail out the auto-workers when nobody has the MONEY to buy a car or put gas in it???

Bill5321   November 11th, 2008 - 11:43 pm

I hate to say it. But we need to raise saleries for Congress.

Only stupid people run for Office. Nancy Pelosi bailout of GM is an amazing example of dumb people at work.
