Soldiers are NOT the problem, THEY DO NOT MAKE THE DECISIONS, ANYWAY! They are often taken advantage of by the government just as much as anyone else — they’re just doing their job and often what they perceive as their duty. I respect soldiers. I don’t, however, respect the policymakers who send them out of the country for what essentially is nothing more than a profit-making expedition, risking their lives for it in the process (and our leaders would NEVER risk their own lives for it).
That being said, I STILL can NOT believe this teacher — she SHOULD be fired immediately for harassing one of her students in front of other students. Doing so merely because of the child’s parent being a soldier and because of the child’s own political beliefs, which she has EVERY RIGHT to hold, is an affront to freedom and democracy!

I looked at the Asheville school district’s website earlier, and looked at every single staff listing for each school, even the high school (though those kids don’t look old enough for that…), and could not find Lisa Diantha Harris listed. I in fact could only find one Harris listed anywhere, and the first name was not Lisa or Diantha. If she is still teaching there, they have her unlisted for some reason, it seems (or I just plain missed it).

‘First SGT Clean,’ just to pipe in with my own opinion on your comment, I have no issue with gays (unless that was a typo on your part, I don’t think Obama agrees with gays/lesbians, hopefully though he will uphold their freedoms). And I don’t think prayer should be in the classroom, personally (to the other poster who suggested it). That’s why churches exist.
I do agree that morality and goodness, and treating others with the decency you hope to receive, are all very good and very important qualities that should be encouraged in society.
And, I most definitely believe that no teacher should be able to browbeat ANY child (particularly in secondary education, people are old enough in college to understand that sort of thing, but NOT in elementary/middle/high school) into following that teacher’s political beliefs, NO MATTER WHAT THOSE BELIEFS ARE.
It is wrong on so many levels, it’s sickening. Not only is it brainwashing (even if you agree with that side) in the case of a child, but it’s harassment and is belittling in front of her peers/classmates, and that is very tough for a child to deal with. Parents be on guard of your children being bullied by teachers trying to browbeat your children out of their opinions. This will be the rule for the next 4 years as it has been for some time now with politically opinionated teachers trying to impose their opinion on your children.

Remember it is never aimed at children with Democrat parents or views, only conservative parents or religious parents and children.
My wife works in the NC school system, black women work as teachers aids to the white teachers typically. They do not act like subordinates though and make the teachers perform the duties they should be doing. If corrected, they go as a group to the principal and cry racism. If not for affirmative action none of them would be employed.They are all former welfare moms with no husbands who take phony 2 year degree programs here locally to get their positions.I kid you not.

The comment I pasted above is the most horrible thing I’ve read on any comment board — conservative or liberal — in a long, long time. It’s not about political correctness. It’s about human decency. Please!
2) This beast is straight out the movies about the indoctrination of school children in newly communist Russia — ridiculing children in class for their religious and social affiliations, actively marginalizing them, and creating an atmosphere of suspicion and division within classrooms.
Stories about Germany in the 1930s are chock full of stories like this, too: Jewish children who went from normal, happy childhoods to being the object of ridicule and humiliation by teachers, and who were jeered, stripped of privileges, academic awards, and refused participation in school activities with their classmates.
The footage gave me the creeps and reading the comment highlighted above didn’t help.

I hope we all email and/or call the school district in Fayetteville; what she did is inexcusable. She has no business ever teaching again, and the only way any of us can help to make sure that happens is by emailing and calling the school district and Mary McArthur Elementary in Fayetteville.
And I have to say again, I seriously wonder if the parents of that little girl know how her own teacher humiliated and frightened her.
This is extremely distressing, and I’d be just as angry if she had been a McCain supporter doing that — nobody’s child should be subjected to bipartisan political brainwashing and humiliation by their teachers, and they especially shouldn’t be lied to — 100 years indeed! That kiddo looked like she was about to break out into tears after “learning” her father might be gone for a hundred years — very unkind and inappropriate.
If that had been my child…my biggest fear is that I would never know. I hope her parents are aware.
One thing I would ask the school district or Mary McArthur Elementary is if they notified the parents of the child about the incident. Did the school board not review the video before the Finnish producers aired it? Because if they did…they should’ve known what they saw was beyond inappropriate and should have immediately notified the parents and suspended the teacher (they should’ve at LEAST notified the parents and gone from there). If not, the school district itself is at fault, too.
If they did NOT review the video, they were negligent. If they DID review it, they were negligent and looked the other way. If they didn’t even ask the Finnish producers to show the video footage they captured at the school to school officials before leaving, they were ridiculously negligent in assuming all of the footage must be a-ok to air/publish.
Just a few points I think that might be helpful if brought to the Fayetteville school district’s attention.

Its the senseless war statement that gets me as the spouse of a US active duty soldier for 23 years fighting a war and watching the progression of the war into victory-the genocide that Hussein did previously is over. This is not a senseless war, the Iraqi’s do not want us to leave them while they are still weak and this teacher was absolutely in the wrong for indoctinating any of these children with that kind of mindset. I am outraged and disappointed in this sort of behavior by one who should have been more responsible than she was in this video.No matter how you spin it-she said what she said. No action from superiors means that these children are at risk terribly-this is child abuse. I would love to question the teacher on National TV about Obama’s claim of wanting to help the poor while giving an average of 3% over 8 years to charity and ask her if she could explain the word “hypocrite” to her class.
Then I’d ask her to describe abortion in detail to her students and ask them to guess which candidate supports it 100%.
In ten minutes I could get that class to agree that McCain is the better candidate.
Then I’d ask them why they think their teacher didn’t tell them about the bad things about Obama and ask if they thought she was a hypocrite?

I remember as a child in the mid 60’s growing up in South Dakota, we were not rich but my father paid our own way we received no welfare, yet the people that were better of financially then us looked down on us. Honestly people. Has anyone here ever tried to film anything? Look at the way the video was put together. Either there were at least three cameras in the room, the whole thing was staged, or it was severely edited. Bottom line, we’re not getting the whole story here. My children came home discussing both candidates and their platforms, and their teachers told them that at the end of the school year they would tell them who they voted for but not before then. This kind of liberal bigotry and brainwashing is everywhere in our public school system. My 13 yr old (8th grade) is in a special needs school on the campus of an inpatient facility. for Autism. He lives on the campus because of his disability. The school is still part of the public school system.
When I went to pick him up for a pass, he berated me for driving a gas powered vehicle instead of using an electric car or biking (it’s 45 miles away) and told me about how Obama was going to bring about change by cutting out oil and we would all use wind and solar. Anyone who voted for McCain was voting to destroy the planet. Ok, now our family is ultra conservative. We have been for generations. My son is like a tape recorder. He can repeat conversations (part of the Autism) so I KNOW exactly what has been going on in that classroom. How DARE they teach these special needs kids with extra sensitive minds their liberal policies!! It’s rampant in the public school system on a national level, and all the way into the highest levels. We really need our superintendents to clean house and to HE11 with the unions. In with socially responsible and well educated teachers and OUT with bureaucracy!!
