The Bush administration never asked for “help” when it came to solving the nation’s problems. It was always, “Do it my way, or shut up!” THIS is why so many Democrats and moderate Republicans got fed up and criticized them. After 9-11 the country was united, but about a year later the Republicans took control of Congress and Mr. Bush no longer felt it necessary to “reach across the aisle” (or anywhere else). THEY created the rift in the country, not the Democrats. The “Unifier” became the “Divider”.

You make a very valid point! It is amazing how people have totally disregarded the fact that Obama’s MOTHER WAS WHITE and he was RAISED BY HIS WHITE GRANDPARENTS, and much of the *GOOD* that is in him no doubt sprangs IN GREAT PART from those two undeniable facts.

Having said that, we should all give this man the best support we can muster in ourselves, despite any misgivings, because doing anything else is only “shooting ourselves” (and our country) “in the foot.”

Okay, we’ve done it. We’ve broken the barrier and a black man has been elected President.

Now, in 2012, can we please elect someone who is qualified to be President because of what he stands for and his (or HER) experience and forget, once and for all, whether the person is white, black, brown, red, or green with pink polka dots – someone who can actually give us more meat than the vague “hope and change” mantra – I mean really, what DID it mean?. Let’s finally do what Martin Luther King, Jr. hoped for – that the person be judged by their character and not the color of their skin. Or better yet, take the thousands of dollars you probably spent on the thing and spread the wealth – I bet you could find something just as nice through Wal-Mart or Target – or over the Internet – for a lot less money. If thrift comes from you and Barry first, maybe it would make it more palatable for the rest of us.
