And, I believe some states actually encourage this due to the fact of our pitiful percentage of actual voters. Civic responsibility, not democratic strategy, people. Matt, you do what I do. Get up early! You’d be surprised how light the voting is if you go early. Or you file an absentee ballot if you can’t get off work. Or in states with early voting, you vote before election day. We’re bending over backwards to accomodate working people this year.
In fact, I’ve found most employers are more than willing to give you time to go to the polls–but not to take the entire day off for something that normally takes less than an hour.
The only reason I wouldn’t go to work next Tuesday would be to stay out of urban areas. Look at Detroit and LA when they win sports championships… it’s a madhouse.

Maybe that is why some of us are bitter about our wealth being redistributed – it didn’t miracle itself into my bank account. I worked for it on election day, holidays, birthdays, etc. and did’t take time off expecting someone else to carry me.

I already informed all 30 employees and all 100 families of my child care center (45% of which are on gov assistance) that an Obama win will mean the end of our center. I will no longer have the capital to continue to grow this facility.

If you can’t manage to get to the polls during the 12 hours they are open, then vote early or vote by mail. If you cannot figure this out, you don’t deserve to vote.

Great Idea! My critically ill patients will have to wait another day for their life saving surgery. But under Obama’s health care plan they will be waiting anyway. They should get used to it. Also, I realize, if I take more days off I will earn less than $200,000 so I’ll pay less tax. This means I will not be able to repay my huge federal student loans. Who cares. I work for a company with about 12,000 employees spread out over 5 seperate sites. We are already given the day off for voting. In fact we are supplying charted buses for low income and elderly communities. And everyone I talk to, is in the bag for Obama. I was going to vote for Barr, but seeing all these funny posts, I am switching to Obama. If this is the type of support McCain draws, no thank you. I have never seen such low class people in my life. I really dislike Obama and believe that if he is elected, historians will mark this as a moment of steep decline in the US. Personally, I’ll be dead before the US recovers–if it ever does. Nevertheless, my contempt for Obama not because he’s half black. It’s because he is not a capitalist and does not understand capitalism. He’s spent his whole life living off of the largesse of others. There’s good evidence that even his books were ghost written. I don’t have a problem with that, but it just means that he really has done nothing other than go to school and benefit from others’ hard work. His grandfather was a friend of a communist agitator in Hawaii, so this sort of anti-US, anti-capitalist sentiment was part of his upbringing. Jeremiah Wright’s black liberation theology is simply more of the same. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers hate the US. Barack and Michelle share their worldview. The difference, of course, is that he’s close to getting his hands on the levers of power–and that makes all the difference.
Imagine a person who has grown up hating Ford cars, but then he is offered the job of CEO job at Ford for 4 years. He wouldn’t shut down the company, he’d say, “hmm, all of these resources, what can I do with them?” Since he never really built the company and doesn’t know what made it great (I know Ford is having problems, but think for Ford during it’s heyday), he would see it as a giant storehouse of money and power. As a result, he’d start giving things away. For example, his chronically underemployed uncle Willie is creative, so he becomes the VP of Marketing. His sister-in-law took an accounting class in Jr. College–she even said she liked it–so she becomes CFO. All those guys working on the line, they’d get a 20% raise and have their work hours cut to 35 hrs/week. To make up for it, he’s simply raise the price of cars by 30%. When that didn’t work and the company was teetering on the brink of collapse, he’d take a survey that finds that investors hate him, but his cronies love him. Then he’d leave the company in shambles and call his detractors racist, bigoted, enemies of hope and change, blah, blah, blah.
That’s how I see Obama: incompetent, delusional, and dangerous. He has no idea what he’s doing and he will unwittingly destroy the country because he has been trained by those who hate it.

The people who attended all of the “socialist days off” are still the ones who complain things are in Hungary in 2008. The $250K+ yearly income earners that Obama will shake down can afford to take the day off, but most of them like me will choose to work since we know that if we don’t produce, no one is going to make up for our lost production. Pitt Man – You said it! I’ve actually thought about the implications of my small-business; a recruiting firm. I don’t know if the $250k is Gross, EBIT, or Net. But if payroll taxes go up, I’ll probably be laying off some workers.
I don’t trust the Dems to sticking to their $250k line. At least the Republicans have a big sticking point if taxes go up on people making under $250k. The last tax rebate began phasing out after 70k gross, hardly $250k. To fund Obama’s massive spending plans (all of the Obama corps), I expect taxes to either go up on the middle class or gross receipts taxes to go on business so they can tax unprofitable businesses. Look how well that’s worked for Michigan!
Why I am a Republican who is voting for Obama.
First and foremost, it is past time for a change. The Republican Party has completely lost its way—and NOT in the way that most of the bloggers on this site think. The GOP has lost its way NOT because it has forgotten its “conservative†roots but because it has catered to the lowest form of those roots in a vain attempt to “shore up its baseâ€. If you examine this “base†it will not be pretty—ignorant, racist, bigoted, shrill, delusional, foolish, and so on. The GOP used to have a thoughtful, intellectual core as exemplified by Bill Buckley; it now has a howling mob led by the ignorance and fear of such shills as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Growing increasingly tired of the GIMMICKS in the Obama campaign but also exhausted from the nonsense in Palin/McCain camp.
Was considering voting for Obama, because the PALIN-McCain ticket is so… ANNOYING… and EMPTY… and DIVISIVE; but Obama’s GIMMICKS and the relentless QUESTIONS swirling around him make it really hard to vote for him, as well. He is too much of an UNKNOWN and what he’s allowing to be known in many ways is worrisome.
This is really a sad situation, because Obama *SEEMS* like a likeable guy with a lot on the ball (more than that Lame McCain and Pugilistic Palin!), but …
Am starting to consider just either NOT VOTING AT ALL or voting for McCain (HOLDING NOSE while pulling lever) and hoping that Obama can SHAPE UP over the next four years and will maybe run again in 2012. If he were not such an extreme-left liberal, and could get some SOLID EXPERIENCE and stop hitting people’s Alarm Buttons, he’d probably make a fine president.

I used to be democrat until I left college and had to pay taxes.
My poor self employed husband is about to go bankrupt from federal and state taxes, it impossible to make a house payment on time. He has not had a day off in over a month at a time this whole year!!!!! He has a family and apparently a nation to support. We shop at the thrift store, have no health care and do not want gov. handouts! we just want to keep some of what he earns. My husband had to fire all his employes because the taxes and insurances were so high even though they were so busy, He wanted to pay fair wages and you can’t do that and not become homeless as a middle class American.

Remember, all of the existing social programs and money these leeches receive now is not counted as taxable income to the leeches. Yet, someone working all their lives ends up paying taxes on the Social Security income they have worked to earn.

Clearly the present policies have NOT helped your husband or family. Has it occurred to you that a change is JUST what you need? Perhaps some of Mr. Obama’s proposals would allow you to get the health insurance you need and help your husband keep his business solvent. LOOK IT UP! Compare the two candidate’s economic policies (if you can find Mr. McCain’s) and then decide which would be best for you.

I will admit it, I am a Democrat who was going to vote for Obama, but the more I look into this man, the less I can trust him….Some of you may laugh at the mere mention of trusting a politician, but this guy is different, or so I thought. I am happy to read the comments of so many citizens who are aware that Senator Obama is a socialist. His voting record is more liberal than that of Socialist Party Senator Bernie Sanders. We are not allowed to see his birth certificate in Kenya until after the election. His birth certificate registered in Hawaii will not be seen by anyone due to a restriction placed on it by the Hawaiian Governor. If we had true journalists in the media, they should be howling indignantly. Political cartoons are being printed in Austrailia rediculing the bias of media in the United States. Um some states already have that rule. In Minnesota you have the right to take time off to vote on election day morning if you choose.
That is the way it should be everywhere unless they make it a national holiday.
I am a student just learning about politics. This site is very instructive. I have learned that capitalists use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS and that most of the anti-Obama people are either foreigners or new to this country, as they don’t know how to use English very well. This doesn’t mean they are bad people or stupid like most of my classmates say. I’m sure they will learn how to write and speak English over time.
A lot of them seem to be worried about taking time off from work to go vote. Is this because they are so important to their companies or because they make so little money that they can’t afford to?
I like the lady that posts those really, really long things about the “Messiah of Islam.” Since it is in quotes, I guess she is not calling the person that but is quoting someone who did. She seem to be the leader here? How many of you work for her? Are you afraid to take a day off to vote because she would fire you?
I don’t understand all the terms. What are “crak and poll smokers” like somebody wrote? Is “crak” a nickname for a Democrat? Is “poll smoker” someone who gets angry about polls because their candidate is olsing in them or someone who gets all “fired up” about them because their candidate is winning? I think it may be the former because so many people here seem very angry? If that is the case, please don’t be angry. Everything will work out for the best if you believe in yourself and in God.

However, a site such as this that does not moderate comments from users is somewhat troubling, especially knowing that an 8th grader is viewing the comments. Commentary from sites such as this can sometimes show the worst of both political spectrums. I can only hope that your parents monitored your access.
