Powerful House Democrats are eyeing proposals to overhaul the nation’s $3 trillion 401(k) system, including the ELIMINATION of most of the $80 billion in annual tax breaks that 401(k) investors receive.
House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, D-California, and Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Washington, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, are looking at redirecting those tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute.
Hmm …. “a system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute.†That sounds very, very familiar, doesn’t it? Don’t we already do this with Social Security?
That means your employer can no longer write off their contributions to your 401(k), and your capital gains would be TAXABLE year-on-year. In other words, it becomes just another investment or savings account, with no tax benefit at all, and no employer contribution. Instead, Uncle Sam would give you your “matching†funds — up to a whopping $600 per year! Whoopee!
Maybe you’ll be lucky, and they’ll have Franklin Raines running the agency issuing those bonds.
The Democrats want to end the private retirement system that has allowed Americans to become a vast investor class and make them dependent on the federal government. This is nothing more than a second welfare system that would sit on top of the crumbling Social Security entitlement. It would leave the American working and middle classes with no retirement option other than a government handout.
If the Democrats control both Congress and the White House, kiss your 401(k)s goodbye.
McCain should be ashamed of himself for all the distorting he’s doing to the statements of Senator Obama. MOST IMPORTANTLY, ‘Joe’(not even his real name)stated on the video that HE WAS ASKED TO ATTEND THE RALLY-you know, the one where he asked the famous ’small business’ tax question of Senator Obama. That makes him a different ‘p’ word – a PLANT. I’m really tired of the viciousness of the Republican party in this campaign. People, please stop watching just Fox news and listening to your friends about who to vote for. Watch MSNBC and CNN to get the full picture. Watch The View(Tivo it) on ABC every morning for informative political views from both sides. The McCain supporters who have time to forward all the vile, anti-Obama unsolicited videos full of B.S. to pro-Obama supporters like me should spend as much time educating themselves about both candidates instead of blindly following the herd. I read and watch interviews, videos, etc. about BOTH candidates. Speaking of educating, we keep hearing McCain referring to Senator Obama’s ‘eloquence’ in speaking. Since when is being able to speak intelligently and in a charismatic fashion a ‘bad thing’? Is it because it gets in his ‘craw’ that Senator Obama graduated at the top when he went to Columbia and Harvard while Senator McCain was one of the bottom 5 students in his U.S. Naval Academy graduating class? And I know Senator Biden wasn’t at the top of his class but it didn’t take him 5 colleges to earn a degree. By the way, he’s done very nicely since then and is highly respected as an expert in Foreign Policy – without even being able to see Russia from his home state. Voters, consider the whole picture. Are you going to vote the ‘religious line’ and make your decision based on only the fact that you(or your church=koolaid)are opposed to gays and pro-choice? Or, will you think like a responsible head of household and, while considering what’s best for the country, foremost consider what’s most important for your family’s future health and welfare – things like healthcare, education, decreasing job outsourcing,Social Security, lowering your taxes , ending the war in a timely manner, etc. I think that , if you would carefully consider everything, you’d realize that voting for Barack Obama is the best way to regain the respect and high standing we once held in the world’s eyes, while providing us with the tools and support we need for a better life for our families and our great country. Don’t settle for less.

McCain has brass balls, I’ll give him that much. In 2000, I voted for him in the primaries. I believed he was a much better than George W. Bush and still do but, obviously, after McCain lost that election he made a deal with the devil because now it appears he has sold his soul.
If I thought I could have my John McCain back, I would gleefully vote for him, but that John McCain is gone and I cannot chance voting for him, he changes his policies too much and has changed his persona because he hired a campaign manager who thought it was a good idea to make McCain into Bush……………bad flipping idea!!

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.
All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.
Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republicans would still be sitting in the dark)
He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.
He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.

I figured, since what I wrote actually dealt with all the same stuff, it didn’t need paragraphs. You know, where to begin…where to end? Actually, I usually get chided for using paragraphs online since not many people bother with them in casual circumstances such as these.

McCain is no Republican, he is a RINO. Why the Republicans ran this ringer is a mystery to me. They have lost Repub voters over it. Maybe they expect to lose as history suggests they will since there has not been a triple term for either party since Roosevelt in the 40’s. It would take a better candidate than him to buck that trend or a really bad opponent.
