? The most troubling problem here is not who covers this story, but the comment itself. What in the world is Joe talking about? This guy is known for his gaffes, and thanks to the internet they don’t go unnoticed, as they have in the past. But this carries a kind of cryptic creepiness that fits in with the halloween season, and scares the excretement out of me. Why isn’t the “news media” doing their job, and questioning Joe on what he means by this comment?

Over the years, Democrats were always complaining that “rich” Republicans were “buying elections”, so they PUSHED to “level the playing field” by passing some sort of “campaign finance laws” — enter McCain-Feingold. If you go to Wikipedia (under “Campaign Finance in the United States) you might learn something. Here’s a sample: “Organizations in favor of campaign finance reform included many public interest groups, such as Common Cause, Democracy 21, the Campaign Legal Center, and Democracy Matters. Opposition came from a coalition of organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (which argued that campaign finance reform would harm free speech) and the National Rifle Association, National Right to Life Committee, and other interest groups.” Pretty obvious that the groups WANTING reform were Democrat-leaning. Those AGAINST reform were Republican-leaning.
What’s the point? The point is that Obama (and the Democrat Party) were ALL FOR campaign finance reform until they realized they could raise more money this time. So, to hell with our “principles”, we WON’T accept the funding. So much for “principles”. Isn’t it strange that the MSM isn’t bringing up the subject of Obama trying to “buy the election” like they always used to do when Republicans raised more money?

* A couple of years ago it seemed that Harold Ford was slated to be the first black president but for some reason he fell from grace. This was about the same time Obama hit the scene. How do you explain Obamas parabolic rise in the political arena?
* Most Republicans feel that Obama owes a lot of people for his rise and this will overrule his better judgment. Do you think this is the case or is this Republican paranoia?
* In your mind what is the most compelling thing about Obama other than his excellent speaking and interracial parents?
* The government is rife with fraud, a free spending Congress and corruption. How do you see Obama correcting this?
* Obama is an articulate speaker but has little experience. Most Republicans feel that he is just an empty suit or a puppet with a great voice. I am neither a Democrat nor an Obama supporter but I will take a stab at your questions. I would like to add that I had supported Mr. McCain up UNTIL the time he selected Ms. Palin as his VP. Now I can no longer in good conscience support this ticket. This woman represents to me everything that is wrong with the present Republican Party. She is ignorant about most of the major issues and, perhaps more importantly, apparently has NO desire to correct this situation. Someone who knows very little but thinks that he/she has “the answer(s)†anyway is very dangerous. I have been looking for some moderation in my party for some time and her choice indicates to me that they simply do not “get itâ€. Intellectualism, “elitismâ€, and knowledge are virtues, not vices. The GOP has been held hostage by the ultra conservative wing that even Wm. Buckley referred to as loons that we must watch carefully. Until this situation is rectified, I will join Gen. Powell and walk away from this group.

This is absolutely irrelevant. “Relationships†that individuals forge over the course of their lifetimes do NOT indicate what a person believes or how he will act. I have friends who are atheist, Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, Evangelicals, and Muslims. I am none of the above. One of my acquaintances is a far left Marxist; another thinks that it is too bad that the Germans lost World War II. Neither one of them reflect my political views. This is a smoke screen for those who can’t think of anything else pertinent to discuss.

Mr. Ford did not “fall from graceâ€. He lost a close election in a Southern state. The fact that he did as well as he did is indicative of how talented he is. Keep an eye on him…he is far from finished politically. Mr. Obama’s rise in the political arena can be tied to the fact that he is extremely charismatic, very articulate, extraordinarily intelligent, and dynamic. A very large majority of the population in the United States is looking for a new direction and a fresh approach to our problems. The “baby boomers†are aging and out of novel ideas. A new generation wants to take over and Mr. Obama was simply the right person, at the right time in our history to step forward.

This is paranoia. If Mr. Obama is elected he will pick from a broad spectrum of advisors (including Republicans like Lugar and Gen. Powell) to implement a coordinated course of action to take this country forward. I would not be surprised if he retained Mr. Gates as Defense Secretary during a transitional period to help stabilize our military operations. I do not see him putting some lackey into a position of importance. He knows that he has only a short period of time to “get things rightâ€. He cannot afford the luxury of hiring fools if he wants to accomplish anything. This man is no ideological fool.

What is most impressive to me is Mr. Obama’s energy and obvious intellectual abilities. He has the stamina to work long hours on complex issues and the ability to parse through complex, conflicting information to arrive a logical course of action. This is something that has been sorely lacking in the White House recently.

Frankly, it doesn’t matter who get elected—this will remain a problem in our government. I would hope that Mr. Obama would enlist members of both parties to address this issue. The recent financial crisis we face is in no small part due to this fraud and corruption. Maybe this is the epiphany we needed to finally clean it up.

Another recent president who was described as such was Mr. Reagan and most people think that he turned out to be a pretty good president. He had the good sense to surround himself with people like Weinberger, Baker, and Shultz from whom he took advice. Mr. Obama has already indicated that he is willing to solicit opinions from many individual representing a broad spectrum of ideas. As I mentioned earlier, he clearly has the intellectual acuity to solve complex issues. Harvard Law doesn’t graduate too many “dummies†and he TAUGHT Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago, one of the top schools in the country. Whatever else you may want to say about him, he is clearly very bright.

Mr. Obama selects a VP candidate that netted less than 1% of the vote during the primaries in every state but one. He received less than 2% of the vote in that state, his own.
