All campaigns go negative. They always have and always will. Let me explain why:

Power is at stake. These parties want to consolidate power for themselves, and are concerned about the other party’s success because they disagree with the opposition’s thinking and are worried it would be bad for the country. Naturally, they trust themselves. A lot is at stake, therefor. And ‘negative’ accusations work to undermine the character of the opponent. Also, often there is much truth to the ‘negative’ comments, as in this case. Should they simply not bring up anything that might be a mark against their opponent, that might expose that person as not being as truthful as they pretend to be? And why shouldn’t they?

No, campaigns always go negative and always will. It is silly to think that they should not. McCain did not want to go negative and neither did Obama. But the real world is what it is, and so we get to this point. McCain has seen that he cannot rely on the media to do its job and point out the history and track record of Obama, so he must do the work himself— even though it is obvious that he doesn’t like doing so. Trust me, he could have gone at this much more aggressively. If it were Bush and Rove against Obama, they would have torn him a new a$$ by now. McCain has wanted to win based on charm and policy, and that hasn’t done well for him so far.

Also— note that this ad was not from the McCain campaign. That is something important that you appear to have missed. And furthermore, note that Obama has not refrained from going negative, either.

In closing, please don’t be so naive.

What happens to our economy if Senator Obama is elected and tries to fight a recession by following through on his campaign promises by raising taxes on investment capital and small business? Senator Obama will be following the Hoover plan of fighting a slowdown by raising marginal tax rates, capital gains, and choking off trade by imposing higher tariffs (which is a tax).

If Senator Obama is elected, America will be building a bridge to the 1930s. Progressives will not be happy until they hammer the American economy into a great depression.

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) set numerical targets banks must hit to avoid financial penalties. These targets forced banks to write more mortgages in poor neighborhoods or be sued by activists like Obama for supposedly ‘redlining’ these neighborhoods. They could only hit such targets by lending money to people with bad credit, as bad credit, not racism, was the real reason banks were not lending money there in the first place. The banks obediently lowering credit standards as the only way possible to increase lending in these neighborhoods. So the sub-prime mortgage industry was created. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and some private banks bought and sold so many of these bad loans that they went bankrupt. Now there is not enough money left in the banking system to finance normal business activity (a liquidity crisis). So the stock market crashed. Naturally it was the Democrats shaking down banks, forcing them to loan money to people without the means to pay it back, while claiming or implying that anyone who tried to stop them was a racist. Those who honor their financial commitments automatically get good credit scores based on the records kept at the credit bureaus. If they happen to live in the ghetto, they have a much better chance of being able to move out to more desirable neighborhoods. So these People who don’t make promises they can’t keep get rewarded for honoring their commitments. Then they have no reason to stay in the ghetto, making it difficult for banks to find credit worthy people in such places, that are supposedly redlined. Mortgages get approved by people of every race, who don’t even know the races of the customers they don’t even get to see. They use mathematical ratios, not racial profiles. The Democrats created this scandal by punishing innocent people for racist practices that did not exist, and the Democrat MSM refuses to admit which members of their own party are responsible, proving their partisanship.
