The directors of Fannie Mae, the big mortgage finance company, will meet Sunday to consider the fate of two senior executives who signed off on financial statements that violated accounting rules, people close to the company said Friday.

The two (Fannie Mae) executives, Franklin D. Raines, the chairman and chief executive, and J. Timothy Howard, the chief financial officer, certified financial statements that the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday ordered to be restated because of significant violations in accounting rules over their treatment of derivatives and prepaid loans.

Fannie Mae said in November that a restatement would force it to recognize $9 billion in losses over the last three and a half years, wiping out more than a third of its profits over that period. Regulators could also force the company to raise its capital levels by billions of dollars, either by selling some of the mortgages it holds in its portfolio or through a securities offering.

Harry Reid… hmm last week he made a bold statement that a “Major” Insurance company was on the very brink of bankruptcy. A name that everyone will immediately recognize. As I recall this caused near panic in the financial markets. But the next day an aid to Reid said, “Well the Senator was only speaking in generalities, there was no name”! WTF, isn’t this like yelling fire in a dance hall when there is not even smoke? Now he is throwing up the race card, yet again. As the Host said, America is tired of hearing this crap every time someone says anything against Obama.
One other point. ACORN. Everyone knows the story on this, yet Obama is curiously quiet on this matter. Why? Obama keeps saying McCain won’t say these things to his face… Next debate John MCcain needs to just unload on Obama, to his face. Demand that America have answers to the many questions that are floating around Obama. Oh yeah while we are at it, Sen. Obama, let us see yoyr senior thesis, what’s to hide? And who do you think will pay for all the programs you want to spend on? Me the tax payer. You want to raise taxes on the rich, but your not talking about just the individual person, but the companies as well. We have seen a mass exodus of jobs leave this country to go overseas where they get better tax treatments. Ask the man in Ireland who he wants for Prez…Obama, why? • Fact: Barack was never an ACORN community organizer.
• Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.
• Fact: ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.

In his capacity as an attorney, Barack represented ACORN in a successful lawsuit alongside the U.S. Department of Justice against the state of Illinois to force state compliance with a federal voting access law. For his work helping enforce the law, called “Motor Voter,” Barack received the IVI-IPO Legal Eagle Award in 1995.

Ken Blackwell is best known today for disenfranchising Democratic voters in his dual role as Ohio Secretary of State and chair of George Bush’s Ohio campaign in 2004. To see him shed crocodile tears for the integrity of the vote while making accusations about Barack and ACORN with absolutely no basis in fact is disturbing.

Blackwell’s attacks against ACORN and community organizers continue a vile Republican pattern of mockery and viciousness against this noble profession. Community organizers are the very individuals Republicans should be celebrating for helping people to help themselves rather than depending on the government.

If anybody really cares what Pinky Reid has to say about anything, you need heavy duty drug therapy. I do believe that most rational people understand that when Dumbocrats yell “racism”, they actually mean that they cannot and will not answer a probing question. John McCain started smearing Barack Obama about non-existent ties to Fannie Mae in some of his deceptive attack ads. Anonymous smear emails have followed McCain’s lead by fabricating even more connections.

These smears disguise the fact that Barack actually has a sensible, detailed plan to fix the economy — and it’s a much better source of answers than anonymous attack emails.

The non-partisan fact-check website Snopes.com looked into these smears, and their conclusions about Barack and the Fannie Mae executives shouldn’t be surprising: “None of them has (or apparently ever had) ongoing roles with the campaign as chief economic advisors.”

Not an adviser: Frank Raines
Barack estimates that he and Raines have talked for “maybe five minutes” in their lives, and Frank Raines himself even released a statement saying that he is “not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

Not an adviser: Tim Howard
This supposed connection appears to have been made up completely out of thin air. Snopes.com writes, “We haven’t yet found any tangible connection between Tim Howard and the Obama campaign, however, much less any information supporting the claim that Howard is a ‘chief economic adviser’ to Obama.”

Not an adviser: Jim Johnson
Jim Johnson has never held a paid position with Obama for America. He volunteered to help Barack select a vice presidential nominee but stepped down after just one week.

“McCain’s own campaign staffers are those special interests, a fact that casts doubt on both McCain’s hiring judgment and his ability to pursue tough reforms of Fannie and Freddie.

Aquiles Suarez, listed as an economic adviser to the McCain campaign in a July 2007 McCain press release, was formerly the director of government and industry relations for Fannie Mae. The Senate Lobbying Database says Suarez oversaw the lending giant’s $47,510,000 lobbying campaign from 2003 to 2006.

And other current McCain campaign staffers were the lobbyists receiving shares of that money. According to the Senate Lobbying Database, the lobbying firm of Charlie Black, one of McCain’s top aides, made at least $820,000 working for Freddie Mac from 1999 to 2004. The McCain campaign’s vice-chair Wayne Berman and its congressional liaison John Green made $1.14 million working on behalf of Fannie Mae for lobbying firm Ogilvy Government Relations. Green made an additional $180,000 from Freddie Mac. Arther B. Culvahouse Jr., the VP vetter who helped John McCain select Sarah Palin, earned $80,000 from Fannie Mae in 2003 and 2004, while working for lobbying and law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP. In addition, Politico reports that at least 20 McCain fundraisers have lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, pocketing at least $12.3 million over the last nine years.

For years McCain campaign manager Rick Davis was head of the Homeownership Alliance, a lobbying association that included Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, real estate agents, homebuilders, and non-profits. According to Politico, the organization opposed congressional attempts at regulation of Fannie and Freddie, along the lines of what John McCain is currently proposing. In his capacity of president of the group, Davis went on record in 2003 and insisted that no further reform of the lenders was necessary, in contradiction to his current boss’s sentiments. “[Fannie and Freddie] are subject to an innovative and stringent risk-based capital stress test,” Davis wrote. “The toughest in the financial services industry.”

At a campaign rally Wednesday morning in Fairfax, Virginia, John McCain said that the heads of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac ought to give back the millions of dollars they’ve earned. What about the lobbyists who helped Fannie and Freddie game the system? Maybe McCain can ask them — at the next campaign strategy meeting.

We then continued breaking down the family, if you could call it that, a mother and her children, by providing for them and teaching them they were owed everything, and we promised them free educations and supplemented college acceptance, knowing their degrees would never be looked at as equal.

What I supported as a member of the Democratic party was a tragedy, it was far worse than slavery, and will have a much longer and permanent damage to the Black race.

We never let the Black man earn his way and stand on his own 2 feet, we took this from him and the family(ies) he fathered. We have never done this to another race and I pray we never do this to another.
For this reason I switched to the Republican Party, a party that inspires (requires) you to stand up for yourself, support yourself, earn self respect and to be judged on your merits not your race.
I don’t want the government providing for me, or providing for my family as that is my job, my job as a man and a father.
I challenge the young in our country to decide if the Government should run their lives and provide for them or to decide if they are man enough to provide for themselves.First you need to take a long look at how well our government manages its own business, my examples are:

Government Housing (the projects), nice places aren’t they, well kept up, pleasant to live in, plenty of individuality. I still cannot believe we allowed ourselves to force the blacks to live like this, we have taken everything from them, by taking their self-respect.

Social Security System, it will probably run out of money because it is grossly inefficient, and we pay millions of people who are capable of working and contributing to society as equals, to stay home.

Medicaid and Medicare do you need more?

For years I watched politicians stroll down the church’s aisle toward the pulpit during election season and make promises to lower-class black people that they too could have their part in the American dream. And in most cases this involved simply giving them whatever they want – the most recent example being housing through Fannie and Freddie Mac, of course. But with every gift comes the fine print, and not reading it in this case led to the retrieval, aka foreclosure, of many of those houses. Now, Obama is doing to all of America what he and like-minded politicians have done to desperate black people time and time again. Promises are being made that they, the government, will give us everything we want, whether it be healthcare or the ability to stay in houses we can’t, and could never, afford. Why? Because that’s the government’s job.

The fine print is left only for those who care to seek it out, and if you care to do that you have no further to look than, once again, the current state of black communities. Since parents are denied the ability to shop for a good school because the government wants to be the only ones to fix their problems – (see school voucher law for further info) – they don’t even know where to begin. After all, how effective can these over-promising politicians be if they let it be revealed, (either through education or a situation where they let the competition-driven private sector fix something), that achieving the real American dream was always something that was meant to be worked for? In effect, the majority of the people who drank the “the government is your provider kool-aid” are left with nothing but their hand out. Obama, non-maliciously, but nonetheless irresponsibly, wants to extend this state of existence to all of America.

When I hear people who’ve worked hard for their money, their lifestyle, and their slice of the American pie lose the desire to do so for fear that they’ll just end up giving it all away in even higher taxes proposed by Obama, “The Real American Dream” has once again been threatened. The American dream that our immigrant ancestors fell in love with says if you work hard you can reap the rewards of that hard labor, and the idea that you can give the American dream to some by taking it away, through higher taxes, from others, only takes away the ability to achieve the American dream from everybody. So the next time you hear Obama making promises about what the government will give us and do for us listen for what it’ll cost us. If he says nothing, think again, for it just may cost us everything.

The interviewer brought up the name of Harry Raines and Reid pointed out that the only similarity between the 2 was the fact that they were both African American. That’s not the race card that is the interviewer being smart alecky.

After viewing the debate and playing it over I find that Sen. Obama was very concise and pointed about what he projects are viable solutions to the issues that concern the American people.

Where as Sen. McCain kept repeating “I know how to fix that”. Sen. McCain sounds like a shade tree mechanic who grew up fixing fords, chevy’s and bicyles. The fords and chevys he been used to working on were in the 50’s and he never updated himself for today’s technology.

Another observation I would like to point out is in the first debated between Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain; Sen McCain never made eye contact with Sen. Obama nor did he address Sen. Obama in a respectful manner. How do you expect me an African American to vote for a man that is clearly racist. He performance in Memphis didn’t fool me not one bit. Sen. McCain fought the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday in Arizona for as long as he could.

I wonder how could he serve in the military and not be partial? That is something to think about. I know racism and Sen. John McCain does not want to be the President of these United States; he only wants to be the partial President of the rich and powerful.

One would think that in his 26 year tenure he would have seen this coming. What good is being a maverick and not getting any results? What good is it being a maverick and not being able to garner support on a large scale? What good is it being a maverick and being out of touch with the current situation.

Gov. Palin go back to Alaska and admit that you were wrong in that you are not ready to assume the highest office in the land. We don’t need a soccer mom, we need steady leadership at the helm. We don’t need to raise issues that have been laid to rest, we need a leader that can raise the America that we love and its people above this current economic disaster.

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street.

1. Franklin Raines: was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregularities in Fannie Mae’s accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, ” Raines, who long defended the company’s accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn’t proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that “mistakes were made” and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company’s books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years.” Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.

Raines left with a “golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government noted, “The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. 2. Tim Howard: Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard “was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a “stable pattern of earnings” at Fannie. In everyday English – he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, “Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,” On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La ,asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant’s income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company’s board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.

3. Jim Johnson: A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you’ll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson’s 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.” Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.
