Obviously most of you don’t even know where Alaska is. I can assure you, if Russia was to break bad, Alaska would be the first US state attacked. There is only eight hundred miles that separates the two. When joking around, remember Gov. Palin “can” actually see Russia from her back door. Many of us in the lower 48 (not 56)have probably never really given it much thought. However, I’m sure many Alaskans have. The rest of us are quite removed from such trivial details. I find it strange that when Russia talked about moving “equipment” to Cuba,just last week, everyone here in the US was paying attention…still are. Somebody explain the difference to me. Cuba isn’t one of our states. Do you think it might be proximity? Ha, ha. I’m not in panic mode by any stretch of the imagination…..however, this country became complacent once before and we lost over three thousand innocent people. SoCal…This is exactly why I’m not one anymore. I was a fervent Rushbaby, having listened to the man since my freshman year in college (1991). I believed in the priciples the party espoused, and actively campaigned during the Newt Gingrich “Contract for America” run in 1994. It was the first time I truly understood what it meant to be an American, and a conservative Republican.
However, our party has been taken over by individuals more interested in Anti-Abortion, Praying in the school, and preaching the gospel to the world, than other very important social, financial and political issues (which government should cover).
We have also become the name callers we once criticized the Democrats of being, using insults rather than ideas to make our points. Again, I am saddened by where the party is going, and can only hope we wake back up one day.
Sarah might hesitate once in awhile in choosing her words carefully (knowing how the media is out to get her) but at least she wouldn’t make the mistake of saying FDR went on television in 1929 to talk about the Depression, nor would she put her foot in her mouth talking to a man in a wheelchair, “Stand up, Chuck!”
If Sarah had done any of those two things McCain would have been pressured to remove her.

PLEASE do a little research about strategic defense facilities in that state. Both weapons and intelligence based. Kind of funny, but not – This takes me back a bit. Several “what if” TV movies made int he Cold War (1970s – 1980s era) had skirmishes or conflicts starting in Alaska with the USSR.
Usually, the oil pipeline there was a target. With oil so key, that’s still there of course, and it is where Russia and the US are closest.
Or course, the USA originally bought Alaska from Russia.
By the way Alaska stuff and bases were usually busy in the Cold War. I hope those days do not return and common sense breaks out, but if they do Alaska will be key as it was then.
People also tend to forget how important Alaska was in WW2. Lots of fighting, from the invasion of the Aleutians by the Japanese (and the US retaking of the islands) to some very serious sea battles (Including the one where all the Sullivan brothers were lost at sea) submarine basing and air patrols for recon and harassment of Northern Japan….

I am frankly amazed that anyone even thought that this woman should be mayor of EastArmpit, or whatever ridiculous town she comes from. It’s absurd. The idea of her as Vice President to a 72-year old with a history or cancer is terrifying.

Now that the campaign has FINALLY allowed her to speak, I can certainly see why they tried to avoid it for so long, she is not a person who can think on her feet. She was horrible in the Couric interview!
I like Palin from a political standpoint, but have to admit this was not a shining moment for her. I just can turn a blind eye to the hesitation in her answer. I haven’t see the whole interview, just this segment….

Of that you can be certain. He is simply too valuable a commodity to cast aside and President Obama OR President McCain is almost certain to call on him for advice and/or appoint him to a key position. How about Chairman of the Joint Chiefs or have him resign from the Army and make him Sec. of Defense? He would be a great choice for either position in any administration.
