‘Made-Up Controversy’: Obama Slams McCain Camp for Crying Foul Over ‘Lipstick’ Remark
"They seize on an innocent remark, trying to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad, because they know that it's catnip for the news media."
The strategy is for one campaign to get the other on its heels spending time & money defending (or retracting) from statements that are off issue but reflect a character flaw. BO/JB are perfect candidates for gaffes and JM/SP are taking full advantage of the situation.
Biden’s gaffe yesterday was priceless. Obama’s comment toward Palin was baseless and a smear to all women. Both have real flaws and the American voter is smart enough to see this…
Isn’t politics great?

John McCain has used the same expression when talking about Hillary Clinton several times. Does that mean he is a sexist too?
NickSeptember 10th, 2008 - 11:21 am
McCain is such a wimp. He gave the Vietnamese military information and admits it. Who cares what that old creep thinks? He’s lucky he wasn’t imprisoned when he got back here to the states.
m-antonySeptember 10th, 2008 - 11:31 am
Enough is enough, of the Affirmative Action candidate. You used the media, with sexism against Hilary. You chickens are coming home, you are swiftboating yourself you idot. Now, you screw it up and want to blame someone else. Maybe, your wife should question how smart you are ?
NamasteSeptember 10th, 2008 - 12:18 pm
We need to wonder why the MCain campaign is hiding their VP pick and why John McCain is unwilling to play by the grownup rules. He knows darn well what Obama was talking about. The lipsticked pig in question are all the McCain/Bush policies which McCain keeps trying to dress up and recycle. It won’t work. John McCain especially knows what “putting lipstick on a pig” means. He tried to use this ploy against Hillary Clinton.
Hey John quit holding Sarah Palin’s hand and let her demonstrate what kind of a candidate she really is.Remove the cotton batting from your VP running mate and let her show us her political chops without you and everybody in your retinue hovering around. She is supposedly a big girl, a mover and shaker, a maverick. Neither of you are mavericks you are sidekicks and hangerson to the Republican party and tired ways of government. You will not change Washington. You cannot. You still have it sticking to the soles of your shoes. Stamp your feet all you want too it will cling like saran wrap.Bluster and beat the air with your fists you are still a Bush Republican playing the Karl Rove anthem.
So Obama believes that this, basically, is petty fighting, it happens every election, and we should just stick to the important topics. Ok, true; but if it’s so petty, why spend time commenting on it? Seriously, I’m getting sick of this. Both sides need to stop whimpering about what the other side said. Both sides need to quit making childish remarks about each other, and just talk about the important subjects as adults. They’re both acting like a bunch of little girls.
I’m perplexed. Maybe the choice is pure genius. Maybe McCain has energized the base, re-established his maverick credentials, re-emphasized his reform agenda, and added historic new cracks to the odious glass ceiling, all with a single decision. Maybe Palin will amaze us all and be able to stand toe-to-toe with Biden. Maybe she’ll add some much-needed sizzle. But I thought the McCain campaign was about experience at a time of national crisis. And I thought he understood the outcome will ultimately rest with independents, with “post partisans.” I guess it’s a good thing most people vote for president, not VP, because, right now at least, this has Bentsen-Quayle written all over it.

Nick my boy; you are extremely weak minded. I bet I could get you to submit to me from this Blog. Forget about applying five years of physical torture.
lipstick is today’s TALKING POINTS from the NObama Democrat Campaign, what NObama did NOT get the memo to defame Sarah Palin?? incredulous.
“every four years this is what we do”??
yes lie and smear your opponent.
trash America with empty suit rhetoric without offering ANY solutions.
NObama’s “serious” statements is to use a “lipstick” comment day’s after VP Palin’s lipstick comment is clearly smearing Palin’s lipstick that’s being used on the campaign trail, Biden’s introduction written by NObama’s staff was very clear about lipstick. http://politicalhub.tv/2008/09/10/democrat-introduces-biden-with-lipstick-line/
Only an idiot would believe in that change.
yes apparently NObama’s campaign is too stupid to lead.

Women from all 57 states have been shown for a brief instance what they can expect from this Silent Jihadist B. Hussein Obama bin Lyin as he goes hoppin’ down the campaign trail, carrying his little Quran wrapped in a Bible cover to hide it.
No wonder they love this one man Islamist Sleeper-Cell throughout the Middle East, especially in the countries that sponsor the enemies of the United States of America.

By the way, to all you liberal losers out there: your stupid term “Swiftboating” is a cheap little way of making the act of revealing the truth into something negative. The Swiftboat Veterans stepped forward with the truth and addressed the lies of your previous false messiah, John “the Traitor” Kerry who actually did sell out to the N. Vietnamese, which is what you libs have twisted into another lie about Mr. McCain.
Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

Can’t help but wonder why John Kerry never factually debunked the swiftboaters and collected the $1,000,000 challenge.

Obama, shame on you! For someone who prides himself in using “good judgement” you sure stepped in a smelly pile. Are you trying to say you didn’t “get it” while your audience was whooping it up over the “lipstick” remark? Please!! A Harvard man SHOULD be smarter than that! I think you and your looney liberal followers are coming unglued……love it! Sarah has the upper hand and didn’t have to do a thing. The “ONE” has done it for her. lmao!!

“The inferior races hate the white race precisely because of its superiority. It is galling to the lower races to be reminded of their inferiority, and white superiority instills in them a burning desire to tear down whites and their creations in order to make themselves whites’ ‘equal’. This is not all, however, for tearing down whites removes a burr from their consciousness — that of being reminded of their inferiority — and indeed is an act of revenge for such reminding. Accordingly, when whites are so stupid as to treat the lower races as equals, this but whets the appetite of those races to see whites destroyed, for they see vulnerability in this stupidity, and thus an opportunity for inserting their grappling hooks into the edifice of white civilization.” –JBR Yant, Mortal Words v 11

I would not have believed the Obama remark about “lipstick on a pig” was aimed at Governor Palin if it were not for the way he covered his forehead with his hand and the way people in the audience started laughing before the words were even out of Obama’s mouth. Body language says it all; that was bad body language if Obama actually wants to win this election.

McCain has Obama up against the ropes and is now pummeling him with the Dems’ own tactics. Obama’s risky fundraising scheme has backfired and he can’t keep up with McCain.
Let’s look at the growing list of tactics which now constitute “swift-boating”:
– Calling Obama on dirty, sexist personal attacks (dating back to the primaries).
– Pointing out his lack of accomplishments.
– Mocking his “heroic” service as an underachieving community activist.
– Reminding voters of his association with America-hating, race-baiting preachers.
– Reminding voters of his association with America-hating, unrepentant domestic terrorists.
– Reminding voters of his association with convicted felon campaign fundraisers.
Bill ChicagoSeptember 10th, 2008 - 7:48 pm
This was far and away the most sleazy, contrived, disingenuous thing I have seen so far in this election.
Laughing this off shows what a truly contemptible, egocentric, deceptive, pathetic wretch Obama is.
Partisanship aside, what in God’s Name are the people around him thinking? I have seen campaigns for High School Class President run with more professionalism. Do they think that turning this into a joke is going to help? That going on Letterman will put this fiasco in a different, more manageable context? That declaring it as a “made up controversy” will just make it go away?
No one generally despises the Democratic Party more than me. Living in Chicago will do that to you. But honestly, at this moment, I am mortified for the Democrats. This guy is a disaster that will take them decades to overcome.
yo1September 10th, 2008 - 8:05 pm
Obama is a complete joke. He is a child.
Name one thing Obama has changed for the better in his career? Name one accomplishment (other than personal)?
He has none. He is a complete fraud.
How many people in the US are friends and associates with a domestic terrorist, Bill Ayres?
How many people go to a racist anti-white America hating church?
Brarack Obama does- and he relates to you and feels your pain. Idoits. To the Obots who will vote for this fraud look in the mirror; now you know why you are poor or are miserable with guilt or both.
His campaign has admitted to playing the race card already- yet the press ignored it like everything else. God help this country.
PermitSeptember 10th, 2008 - 8:09 pm
Tell them all Obama. This is not fair and people are being mean to Obama. When Obama is President, speech permits will shut all these mean people up!
I am troubled by it [McCain's choice of Palin], not the least because of the way it was done — last minute, impulsive, with the presidential candidate barely knowing his choice and without an extensive vetting done well in advance.
The ethical issue is also troublesome, just from what we know on the record. Gov. Palin is by all accounts honest when it comes to money and taxpayer dollars, but either she or her close subordinates used government power to try to settle a personal vendetta — if she did not do it, but her subordinate did (from the audio tape on record), she clearly should have fired him and did not. Given the Patriot Act, the enhanced surveillance and other powers being exercised by the federal government, having someone willing to use or tolerate the use of the power of the state for personal vengeance is pretty unsettling.

I have to admit,I did not think Obama was stupid enough to be referring to Sara in that statement yesterday. Then I watched the other part of his interview with O’Reilly. Not only is he exactly that stupid,it scares me to think that this man is the cream of the crop in the dem. world. He could and would not answer questions from O’Reilly, and he’s going to stand up to the enemies of this nation..give me a break.I have talked to 13 year old kids that have a greater grasp of issues and what needs to be done. The entire media establishment needs to make a very public apology to Quayle,he looks like a Rhodes Scholar compared to this completly empty suit.

Obviously, you don’t know Orenstein. He IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE. He was regularly a guest on Air American. He considers himself a Non-Partisan, Middle of the Road kind of guy.
He also has an exaggerated opinion of how funny he think he is. He should get help for that.
WildTurkSeptember 10th, 2008 - 8:50 pm
This incident so clearly points out just how out of touch with mainstream American society Obama is. He goes out yesterday and treats the presidential race as if it’s the Jerry Springer Show, and then can’t figure out why people reacted so negatively toward him for saying what he said.
You want to talk about context? When McCain used the lipstick/pig remark, it was clear that he was talking about Hillarycare — proposed policy. Obama knew he’s get press coverage (catnip for what, Barry?) if he used the lipstick/pig remark on the heels of the RNC convention and Sarah Palin’s impeccably timed one-liner. The only thing he didn’t figure was that the American people are smarter than he gives them credit for. They knew he’d just called his opponent’s running mate a pig.
And this is the guy Dems want to put in charge of our foreign policy? Controversy doesn’t BUILD character; it reveals it!
At least she is a MILFSeptember 10th, 2008 - 9:22 pm
Hmmm…Let’s see…
Barak Obama (sorry…for all you right wing nut jobs out there…Barak HUSSEIN Obama) is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review He later taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for fourteen years. Not bad…Columbia and University of Chicago are the 8th ranked universities in the country and Harvard IS the top ranked school.
Sarah Palin, on the other hand, spent her first college semester at Hawaii Pacific College, transferred to North Idaho College and then to the University of Idaho. She then transferred again to Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term, returning to the University of Idaho to complete her degree (BS) in communications-journalism. She then pursued a career as a sports reporter. Now I wonder…how Hawaii Pacific, North Idaho, University of Idaho, and Matanuska-Susitna College match up with Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Chicago?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Thanks…I needed that!

Hey, Blam, let’s put things in pespective…
What do you think that the chances are that Sarah could have even been ACCEPTED to attend one of Obama’s alma maters or the Univ. of Chicago where he TAUGHT? I might add that we are not even considering the probability of her finishing. It seems that she found the major of communication-journalism to be challenging at the Univ. of Idaho. Of course, if things got tough she could have always transferred to Matanuska-whatever and returned later. I wonder…do you think that Columbia or Harvard would have accepted those credits? Hmmmm…I don’t think so.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
But at least when things get tough she can speak in “tonguesâ€. Right?
This just gets better…

Dear Senator Obama,
Do you remember one of your speeches that said, “Words, just words!” You saw the reaction to your crowd when you made statement about lipstick and you know in your heart that they thought you were referring to Governor Palin. So it matters not whether you meant it or not. What matters is that you got the reaction you wanted from the crowd and it is false of you now to cry Mommy! I didn’t mean it! Stop it and tell us what you are going to do for us poor Americans.
PaleRyderSeptember 10th, 2008 - 11:36 pm
After doing some research on this,I found that the”lipstick on a pig” comment was no mistake and was definetly talking about Sara.11 days ago it was the lead article on the front page of the DNC website calling her pick nothing more than a pig in lipstick. So much for barry’s lie and know we know the entire party conjured this up..standing up for women’s rights once again so we can bitchslap them back in line where they belong.Such a party of womens issues and tolerance. It is still up on the dnc website as of right now ,but am sure it will be down soon.I have copy and pasted so as not to lose it forever.

Sarah Palin is not the issue. She is just the latest contestant in a political version of American Idol and is being used to deflect the attention away from John McCain and the policy and failures of the Republicans.
She is hot, she is a hockey mom, mother of five. She is sarcastic, she reads a good speech (prepared for her by GWB’s speechwriter with out any substantial input by her), but she is not what this election is about. Virtually all professional political analysts say she is not prepared to be President at this point, but that isn’t why she was picked.
If you like John McCain’s policies and judgement (he voted with GWB 100% this year, 80% over the past 8 years) vote for him. If you like Obama’s policies and judgement, vote for him. But it’s time to stop going nuts — in either direction — over Ms Palin.
grikSeptember 11th, 2008 - 3:21 am
Now hes being disingenuous. Calling Palin a PIG IN LIPSTICK is being kind. Even she likes to think of herself as an attack dog. McCain may be hot headed, vindictive, and willing to turn tricks for votes but at least he isnt a religious nut like Palin to boot. Just the combo the world needs in the White House.
