Reuters: Scientists involved in a historic "Big Bang" experiment to begin this week hope it will turn up many surprises about the universe and its origins -- but reject suggestions it will bring the end of the world.

I am not a scientist, so I cannot appreciate how this gigantic and expensive device will accomplish anything of real value for humankind.

With all the problems we have in the world, famine, shortages of potable water, energy shortages and disease, the resources needed to build this contraption could have been more wisely used elsewhere.

It will create a black hole alright. A black hole that hard-earned taxpayer’s money will be poured into with abandon.
