The reason the DNC chose Denver for their national convention… its known as “The Mile High City”. Those dope-head Democrats misinterpret everything!

Kudos to the Denver Police Department for doing their sworn duty, and upholding the laws of their state.

Democrats should have chosen San Francisco. Or, better yet Tijuana or perhaps Jamaica, for their quadrennial Woodstock-style convention.

How about the penalty of public RIDICULE?

“There’s no penalty for the city not to enforce the state law.”

I’m a small government Republican. The smaller the better. But marijuana kills thousands upon thousands of precious children every year. We need life imprisonment for drug use, with floggings and hangings for dealers. We need BIG government when it comes your sex life and to recreational drug use. We also need BIG government to support and promote my religion and to tax you how ever much it takes to bring you to my beliefs. I’m a modern Republican!

The only reason the cops want the law is all the money and toys they get to go after evil potsmokers. Helicopters to look for fields, all sorts of crap. Half the cops would be unemployed if they actually left adults to their own devices. Approximately 3000 people a year die of drug overdoses, and the users send billions to countries for the drugs they use. The cops spend billions to stop it. This is BS, keeping politicians, lawyers and cops swimming in money and graft.
Legalize drugs, or at the very least, steroid test all law enforcement personnel, (or do you think those cops were born busting out of their uniforms).

I’m no liberal, but its silly that this drug is such a big deal. Have any of you republicans out there ever smoked it— maybe a few times when you were young? What’s the big issue with it? A few rounds of Jack and you’re much worse off than smoking some of this stuff. It just kind of temporarily stuns you. Alcohol can take you right out of commission and turn you into a tragic mess right in front of everyone’s eyes. And then you forget things, make a fool of yourself, kill someone with your car, etc.

Its a bizarre double-standard.

LOL! Going after the protesters for bud! They’d have much more fun going after the DNC members for their use of prostitues in Denver during the convention. Would get a lot more media attention when they catch high ranking officials trolling the streets for sex.

BIGDOG   August 22nd, 2008 - 7:19 pm

denver police pick and choose what they like to enforce all the time…denver gun shows sell weapons that are considered “illegal” in denver city limits, but legal all over Colorado and other states- wanna take a guess which law the Denver police choose to enforce? the city ordinance…of course. They could care less about state law when they deem it “unjust” (hey, why not have 2 sets of laws? makes for fun enforcement! what better way to charge people than to make something illegal in the city, but, fully legal everywhere else?! or vice versa.)…make up what they think laws should be and generally violate individual rights all day long with the approval of the city leaders. Screw the voters…we can club them, threaten them and do as we please…were Denver police!
best part is, the DNC has employeed one of the finest denver has to offer…a washed up, big mouthed, corrupt former officer, that resigned amid charges of improper billing (ie theft) practices and changing his own timesheets/vacation logs for his convenience. another proud ,fine ,honest individual that has worked for and among denver police.
Lets hope DPD can keep their heads about them amongst so many ‘law breakers’ this next week.
If your in denver this coming week…watch it…one never knows just what is illegal or will be perceived as such.
common actions may be misconstrued by the DPD as violating one of their personal/city/police only laws. Be wary how you talk to them, look at them or make gestures…they WILL arrest/harass you!
The Gov. of Colorado needs to put the city of denver in its place…back in state control! slap ‘em down and remind them who’s in charge.

I guess a lot of Democrats are potheads. That being said, marijuana ought to be legalized everywhere in the US and regulated like alcohol.

m-antony   August 22nd, 2008 - 7:46 pm

Guess they did not want obama arrested?

David   August 22nd, 2008 - 8:50 pm

The liberals, democrats, and other socialists/marxists going around stoned all the time would explain a lot.

demdicks   August 22nd, 2008 - 9:03 pm

They are keeping public safety in mind. They believe if these trouble makers are high enough, they will be too busy mellowing out and eating munchies to be violent.

Dems 4 Pot   August 22nd, 2008 - 9:54 pm

Of course there will be pot – the Dems are in town.

TomBrooklyn   August 22nd, 2008 - 10:18 pm

Cops don’t sit outside bars and arrest drunk people–unless they are disorderly. They arrest drunk people who get in a car and drive. The same could be done for marijuana–no smoking and driving.

Malarky   August 22nd, 2008 - 11:09 pm

What you see at the Democrat convention is what you get in November for the next 4 years if you vote them into office. Pretty much the same for the Republican convention.

Actions speak louder than sound bites. Funny to hear dopers complain about Denver police when Denver is owned and operated by liberal Democrats. Maybe they should consider that before voting if they can remember why they went there in the first place.

Not Surprised   August 22nd, 2008 - 11:24 pm

One more example of this once great country going to pot — or worse.

This speaks volumns not only about the Democratic Party, but about Colorado, Denver, the people who live there and their police. Makes me wonder why they didn’t choose Boulder for their convention. They could have had a real peace and love in bash.

What a group. They deserve each other. I only hope the rest of the country has the sense to reject what comes out of this Rocky Mountain high.

MaryR   August 22nd, 2008 - 11:29 pm

Just enforce Denver’s smoking ban. No smoking in public buildings (including hotel rooms) or within so many feet of public buildings. Those who want to indulge would have to stand in the street.

Denver hates cigarette smokers but won’t ticket pot smokers.

Drumz   August 22nd, 2008 - 11:55 pm

This is ridiculous. The cops should be PROVIDING the weed. It would keep the protestors all mellow… duuuuuuude.
