How come there was no happy Hannukah. That was not very nice Mike, after all Jesus was Jewish.

someguy   December 17th, 2007 - 11:16 pm

Is it supposed to be news that he mentioned *gasp* the C-word, “Christ”, in a CHRISTmas greeting? It’s kinda the whole reason we have the holiday in the first place, ya know.

Rob   December 17th, 2007 - 11:32 pm

It’s great to hear a Merry Christmas from a political figure.

Andrew   December 17th, 2007 - 11:42 pm

Oh dear. A Christian candidate has done a message wishing a mostly Christian country Merry Christmas! What’s worse, he didn’t do anything to attack all those who are attacking him with lies and distortions! To think that he didn’t even pander by also wishing a Happy Hannukah, despite the fact that he doesn’t celebrate that holiday! What has this world come to? We must fight this! Any candidate who is genuine in his beliefs, who doesn’t pander, and who doesn’t spend all of his time on vitriolic attacks against his opponents must not be welcomed in the political arena!

RPV   December 17th, 2007 - 11:51 pm

Huckabee, you are an insult to the cross. You are a liar. You have 5 upheld ethics violations. Your own son is a sadist. You are a “Christian” in word only. A true pharisee of which Jesus said, don’t follow their example. You are dragging God through the mud. You can tickle itching ears, give people what they want to hear, but at the end of the day you’re nothing but a fraud.

SMC   December 17th, 2007 - 11:54 pm

Jason, he didn’t say Happy Hannukah because he’s a Christian. I think that’s pretty much self-explanatory isn’t it. He just simply wanted to emphasize what this time is all about.

Scott   December 18th, 2007 - 12:05 am

Why stop at Hannukah? I think every time a public figure issues a greeting, (s)he ought to include all religious, national or international holidays or significant occurences within, what…. 30 days of the date on which the greeting is issued? Yep, that seems fair and reasonable. We certainly wouldn’t want to offend any particular socio-economic, national, religious or other special-interest group with our traditional, American, Christian merry-making. So a merry Winter Solstice to you all, and a happy Boxing Day. Oh… and a happy belated Clerc-Gallaudet week to all you deaf-Americans out there. And, I almost forgot… December is Colorectal Cancer Education and Awareness Month… so be sure to schedule your colon cleansing and rectal examination after eating all that Latkes and Varnishkes, youy crazy merry-makers. Oy! My name is Scott, and I approve this message.

Elbeau   December 18th, 2007 - 12:11 am

Oh…so he’s the “Christian” candidate. Now I know. It’s too bad he doesn’t have anything else going for him or he could talk about that as well.

OM   December 18th, 2007 - 1:03 am

I think the Christianizing of America has gone too far. Huckabee is obviously pandering to far-right voters. This is a Deist Nation. A Tolerant nation. A Humanist nation. A Great Spirit Nation I do not believe Jesus is the risen Son of God and there are plenty others like me. Jesus is a very important part of the tapestry of righteous anger, love and respect for fellow man, but there are other–equally valuable strands of belief in the fabric. Huckabee is a smoothe talker, but he’s starting a battle with free thinkers which has been a long time coming.
We will never truly be a Great Nation until we can see past the trappings of fundamentalism being packaged as the American Way.

Lucy   December 18th, 2007 - 1:08 am

RPV would the RP have anything to do with Ron Paul? Just wondering. So far, I have not heard Ron Paul say anything as nasty as what you just said. If he is your candidate, you are doing him a disservice.

Elbeau, Mike does have something more to say…otherwise he would not be at the top.

LOL!, someguy and Andrew…Merry Christmas to ya! and all the best to you and your families!

Thank you, Mike Huckabee, for wishing Christian families a Merry CHRISTmas. Makes my CHRISTmas cheerier.

BJ   December 18th, 2007 - 1:31 am

I dislike Huckabee A LOT. He is the epitome of hypocrisy.

That being said, this was a nice message. Didn’t attack anyone and was another reminder for why we celebrate Christmas. Hard to get offended by his invocation of the name of Jesus Christ.

KLT   December 18th, 2007 - 1:50 am

Huck for Pastor in Chief! He does not have anything of substance to talk about except being a preacher. I want someone that understands the Economy. I want someone that has excellent judgement. I want someone that can make stuff happen. Yes it’s nice to get a Christmas message, but this is a CAMPAIGN AD. The ONLY reason this guy has risen to the top is because of this religion-on-his-shirt-sleeve campaign. I promise that won’t work in a general election. People want more than just a nice Christian guy for president.

eric worthington   December 18th, 2007 - 2:12 am

Merry Christmas to you too Governor Huckabee. You being on top of the polls is an affirmation of the American dream and the best Christmas present I could ask for.

george griffin   December 18th, 2007 - 2:19 am

Outstanding Governor Huchabee. You anti-christian nuts better get you heads straight. In the end the Lord will prevail!!!! Every knee shall bow !!!!!

James McCann   December 18th, 2007 - 2:49 am

He is using Christ to get himself elected. What do you call people who USE Christ for personal gain? EVIL

The only thing he has going for him is that is a “Christian Leader” who is “One of You”……..meaning he’s not one with the rest of America.

This guy makes me sick

braden   December 18th, 2007 - 3:07 am

Christmas = the celebration of the birth of Christ?

Gosh, I never would have known if it weren’t for Huckabee and his theology degree.

This man epitomizes everything that is wrong with the modern Church today. And every soul lacking in the discernment to distance themselves from this man will inevitably have to answer before God for failing to uphold Truth and for being an accomplice in his evil deeds.

ROBERT A REALMAN   December 18th, 2007 - 3:16 am

Merry Christmas President Huckabee!! That Has a true Ring to it, It would great to have a White Christian President for a change we White Christian’s are sikc and tirerd of being descriminated against by the PC police and MSM who have given all the Jobs and Political Power to the so-called minorities, females, and homosexualitys who are shoving it down are throats. A Christian President would put God Back in the School’s and Court House’s where He belong’s, the Children would start Learning The Three R’s again like my friend’s and me did not how to put a condom on a Banana and be Gay and Lebsian like som any Today. The we could get the Criminal elements out of are Institutions and take back our Boarders.

JLR   December 18th, 2007 - 3:18 am

As a Christian, I can appreciate the message. However, in the context of a political ad, this is reprehensible. OM hit it on the head- we cannot try to Christianize the nation. It is good, however, to preserve our heritage and taking all reference of religion from our courts and public places is going too far. Huckabee has nothing of substance to say. So far the extent of his success is claiming his preacher past, and throwing religious slurs at Mitt. Huckabee will further polarize our country and lead to more vitriolic attacks on people of faith. Elect Mitt, the only candidate with a serious record of success economically and politically- and one that does not run on his religion.

Gullyborg   December 18th, 2007 - 3:21 am

I think the message is poorly chosen. He says to remember what really matters, and talks about Jesus.

That is fine, if you are just talking about Christmas. But you can’t take this message out of the context of a Presidential election. And we have a candidate for President, not a candidate for pastor, telling us that what is important is Jesus.

In a Presidential race, Jesus is NOT the important thing. Foreign policy, war on terror, Iraq, taxes, jobs, the economy, education, social security, deficit spending… these are all things that MATTER and are important to the job of President.

I have no respect for Huckabee as a politician.

Senator Lampoon   December 18th, 2007 - 3:56 am

The good news is, Ron Paul is proof you don’t have to be religious, like Huckabee, to be a nut case.

So we got that going for us.

Georgia   December 18th, 2007 - 4:06 am

The sad thing is that people will vote for him solely because he did a religious commercial.

Benjamin W. Hughett   December 18th, 2007 - 4:25 am

Good to hear MERRY CHRISTMAS from a political figure, and Jason, just wait.

Peter Luster   December 18th, 2007 - 4:35 am

Politics at it’s finest folks, as long as we consume it, it will be there… The commercial is a little too obvious- but it gets people buzzing about him–good and bad

Mike Hernan   December 18th, 2007 - 4:38 am

Some said he has a Cross in the background,so terrbly religious! But it is a bookcase…

Merry Christmas

PK   December 18th, 2007 - 5:24 am

Is there a rule that every Republican candidate has to be an anti-gay bigot? Huckabee really disgusts me. You can be Christian without hating people, you know. He deviates from the teachings of Christ far more than any homosexual act ever could. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Christ never actually even said anything about homosexuality, did he? Wasn’t he too busy granting forgiveness to outcasts?

Agt. Smart   December 18th, 2007 - 5:55 am

PK – Of course the reference of “homosexuality” is never mentioned in the Bible. However, what Christ considered to be a moral relationship is very clear. As a Christian I find it interesting that you think we “hate” homosexuals. We don’t hate people. We hate the sin. We love people and want them to “see the light” if you will.

Jesus washed the feet of a prostitute and the people witnessing the event couldn’t believe it and tried to stop him. This is exactly the attitude that we are supposed to have. Jesus certainly didn’t approve of what she did, but he loved her enough to show he cared. And this is the best way to help people “see the light.”

AEC   December 18th, 2007 - 5:59 am

The guy says Merry Christmas and a bunch of you jump all over him as a hypocrite – my, you seem like a lovely, forgiving, cheery sort! A political ad that doesn’t attack other candidates – must be a ploy! Seriously, do you listen to yourselves at all?
KLT – Huckabee has more governing experience than any other candidate out there – successful governing experience, no less.
James McCann – He makes you sick because he ran an ad wishing people a Merry Christmas? What do Mitt Romney’s attack ads do for you, then – require surgery?
PK – Being a Christian means loving people – and hating the sins that destroy them. Forgiveness from God does not mean that he then considers it OK to go on sinning. Read Romans 1, if you want – the New Testament is as much opposed to homosexuality as the Old is.

Johnnie Stang   December 18th, 2007 - 6:18 am

Nothing wrong with this. Rather pleasent to hear a politician actually mention Christ publically. After all Christ is the reason…

As my favorite T-shirt says “Get Christ…. it’s hell without Him” :-)

Jonathan Edwards   December 18th, 2007 - 6:24 am

What’s he looking at?

gtr81   December 18th, 2007 - 6:53 am

PK: Yes, you are in need of correction. Jesus, who is YHWH, who is Himself God Almight God, whom did author the Holy Scriptures, said that all sexually immoral (men that lay with a man as a woman, women that exchange the natural and lay with other women, those that practice fornication, adultery, bestiality, and sodomy) will not inherit the Kingdom of Yah, but will have their part in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death, where there is darkness, weeping, and gnashing of teeth.

Paul, the one that penned 2/3 of the New Covenant, was very politically active in his day; going before Caesar and other rulers, and loving them enough to tell them the Truth – apart from Christ no man has the Father, and no man shall see heaven.

As for condemning Huckabee simply because he feels he’s being called to the Presidency of this nation, there is no biblical basis for doing so. Actually, to lead is a great honor, and to lead in a way that is just and right before the Creator and sustainer of all the universe, is very wise.

Who do you people think is in control of all of the terrorists? Who do you think is in control of the beat of every creatures heart? Who do you think is in control of the harvest? Who do you think is in control of a nations security? A nations economy? In your hubrous, which begets your destruction, you believe man is in control of such things – it is not – it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Daniel, David, Solomon, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, and Timothy. His name is Elyon – His name is Yeshuah – His name is Jesus the Christ, and He commands all people everywhere to repent, be saved, or surely die.

“For there is none good not one; none seek after God. All have like sheep gone astray.”

Verily, verily, I (Jesus) say to you, you must be Born Again to enter the Kingdom of God.” No human being comes to the Father (God) except by Me. He who has not the Son, has not the Father either.”

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the Good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Ya'Zhynka   December 18th, 2007 - 7:06 am

74% of Americans describe themselves as Christian.

Mackaarina   December 18th, 2007 - 7:24 am

Scary, I remember when George W Bush said that God wanted him to run for President. Heaven help us if another religious fanatic is elected to run this country. Remember the Constitution? Separation of church and state…Ron Paul has his faith but keeps it seperate from government because the citizens in the US are of different faiths. God help us if Dr Paul isn’t elected. I want a President, not a preacher.

JawJaJim   December 18th, 2007 - 7:25 am

As a Christian I am sick and tired of people jumping all over any politician that dares let people know they have some faith life. I don’t care about religious affiliation of the President but I do feel more comfortable knowing that the President has some belief in a higher power. God, forbid if we ever elect someone who thinks THEY the most powerful force in the world.

And to those of you who accuse Huckabee or the GOP or anyone else of trying to “Christianize” the country, I say get over your bad selves. I have not heard any candidate say they would mix politics and religion. Have you? What does Hillary Clinton believe? What does John Edwards or Barak Obama believe? Just because a candidate hails from the right side of the political fence, the MSM and the libs feel the need to find a way to paint them as a Christian fanatic.

I’m so sick of this kind of PC treatment. It only makes me want Huckabee or Romney to win even more.

Ya'Zhynka   December 18th, 2007 - 7:34 am

The non-Christian candidate for President, Dennis Kucinich, searches for UFO’s with Shirley MacLaine.

JillR   December 18th, 2007 - 7:47 am

This ad is so ridiculous. There is a great translation of the ‘Jesus ooze’ at:

http://garlinggauge.com/2007/12/18/huckabees-new-ad-you-cant-out-christian-me/

Robert   December 18th, 2007 - 7:57 am

Huckabee wishing Merry Christmas…any attack on this ad is just plain religious bigotry.

Isaac   December 18th, 2007 - 8:35 am

I will not be voting for Mike Huckabee. The sad thing about this is that he has such a large following of brainwashed Jesus sheep who will vote for him mainly due to his religious beliefs. There are other Christians running for president but they are not using their personal beliefs to push their run for the White House. It is sad to see such an irrational and ignorant public raising the poll numbers of this fraud.

Isaac   December 18th, 2007 - 9:13 am

Lies made by Mike Huckabee as taken from ‘www.factcheck.org’.

The former Arkansas governor is fond of saying – in debates, on his Web site and in that Nov. 18 Fox News interview – that he cut taxes “almost 94 times in my state.” (On his site, he rounds up to “nearly 100 times,” adding that he saved “the people of Arkansas almost $380 million.”)

That turns out to be far from the whole story. The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration found that 90 tax cuts were enacted in legislative sessions from 1997 through 2005, while Huckabee was governor, and those cuts reduced tax revenues by $378 million. But Huckabee fails to mention the 21 tax increases that occurred under his watch and that raised revenues by substantially more. The total net tax increase under Huckabee’s tenure was an estimated $505.1 million, says the Department of Finance and Administration’s Whitney McLaughlin, adding that the figure has been adjusted for inflation.

See more of Huckabees deciet at, http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/huckabees_fiscal_record.html

Garrett   December 18th, 2007 - 9:20 am

I am a Christian and do not really agree with this ad. Sure it is nice that he said that and I am sure he means it, but then again it was paid for by his presidential campaign. Thus meaning that he is using Christ to benefit himself. Think about it this way, would he have made the ad if Christianity was a minority religion? Probably not… I like Mike Huckabee but Ron Paul is the real deal. No flip flopping or indecisiveness but an honest man who seriously is the only hope in beating Hillary. Think about it… No other candidate stands out enough to defeat her.

JimBob   December 18th, 2007 - 4:13 pm

Ya’Zhynka, I am not sure if your 74% statistics are correct.

However, if I tell you that I am a professional baseball player, then you see me with a ball cap, a glove, a jersey and may even see me at a baseball field… does that (in fact) make me a professional baseball player. Nope!

I believe that the vast majority of people who claim to be Christian today do so for other reasons than devoutely following the teachings of Christ. They aren’t Muslem, Jewish, etc. or their parents are Baptist, Methodist, etc. it has nothing to do with their relationship with the Savior.

Jesus (Himself) said that many will say (paraphrase): But, Master we healed the sick, cast out demons and fed the poor in Your Name. Jesus replied, I never knew you.

Social Christians do more harm for the Gosple than Athiests. You will see them in church on (some) Sundays. On Monday morning they will be at work gossiping, flirting, stealing (supplies and time) from their employer, basically living lives just as the non-believer…with the exception of church attendance. Like putting on the baseball gear and going to a game… doesn’t make them a professional baseball player either.

gtr81   December 18th, 2007 - 5:47 pm

MACKAARINA;

There is No Such Thing As A Constitutional separation of Church and State – It Does Not Exist.

Take Huckabee at his word. You will know a tree by the fruit it bears. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear bad fruit. A lot of bad fruit posted here.

Matthew   December 18th, 2007 - 6:55 pm

HYPOCRISY! HYPOCRISY! HYPOCRISY!

At the beginning Huckacrite says:
“Are you about worn out of all the tv commercials … mostly about POLITICS!”

In essence, he’s denouncing/condemning political ads during the Christmas season.

But, but, …at the end of the ad, comes the obligatory POLITICAL disclosure:
“I’m Mike Huckabee and I approve this message!”

Is this guy the greatest HYPOCRITE or WHAT? Talking about mixing Religion and Politics all in one message/ad! Another “Pat Robertson” and it’s NOT good, NOT good for America. Please DO NOT let this man become President. He’s going to have Sunday School and Bible Study in the White House! He is going to pardon ALL the Terrorists!

…Oh, by the way, JESUS abhors HYPOCRITES!!

GoHuckabee   December 18th, 2007 - 11:05 pm

I think he has every right to make a Christmas greeting. He is a Christian, and historically America has been a nation of Christians.

“Huckabee invokes Christ”? He is just being completely open about what he believes in, and that is Jesus Christ.

I hope to see more of Huckabee, as I think he would make a great president. He is the next Ronald Reagan.

E390   December 19th, 2007 - 1:46 am

As hard as those God hating people in America try you can not change the fact that the USA was founded in Christianity. The christian haters unite to open foot baths for muslims but any word/speach containing Christ is called hate speech. I feel sorry for those who are so full of hate. Merry CHRISTmas to every person even non believers.

Bob   December 19th, 2007 - 9:52 pm

C’mon folks. I saw the commercial. It’s only a BOOKSHELF. We are reading WAY TOO FAR into the message. As far as his Christmas message, I admire his courage to stand up for what he believes. My mind isn’t made up entirely. But Mike’s Christmas wish does not rule him out for my vote. As for Bill Donahue’s comment: He’s usually on target. But this time I think he’s got it wrong.

A Texan   December 20th, 2007 - 12:09 am

I don’t mind the ad. What I mind is that money raised for a POLITICAL campaign/purpose paid for the ad. And think about that little box we choose to check or not check to contribute to the Presidential campaign. Tax payer dollars used to further a religious message? Hmmmm…
