Right on President Bush, that’ll put him in his place and bring peace and tranquility to the region!

JC   August 11th, 2008 - 11:31 am

Since the United States Secretary of State Condi Rice’s only leadership experience is being a school teacher that knows a lot about Russia, they just ignore her. Bush should have gotten somebody who was qualified instead of his personal friend for the position. As it turned out, the Bush administration probably only made the situation worse by using stupidity instead of diplomacy in the region. Bush can huff and puff all he wants, but nobody is listening…

Maybe McCain has a “plan” and he can demonstrate how he would succeed where Bush has failed in this situation. Obama is on vacation so this would be a great time for McCain to actually do something. The field is wide open for the Republicans to show what they have in handling this crises. Just like the last 7 years.

It’s a tightrope. We can’t overtly start bombing Russian positions. However we can via the CIA funnel aid to the Georgians. A few shoulder launch anti aircraft missiles would go a long way. This was planned by the Russians, their quick and decisive attack has proved this. The separatists with help of Russian “peacekeepers” were able to instigate an invasion by Georgia. Georgia for it’s part was foolish to take the bait. The US should have made the Georgians aware of the invasion force on their doorstep.

dswilli   August 11th, 2008 - 11:51 am

There is no right answer JC. Everything that can be done is being done, clandestinely. I’m confidant that the CIA is doing what it can. As much as it pains me to say this we can’t risk war with Russia to side with Georgia overtly. Though Russia’s equipment (garbage) and tactics (ham fisted and stupid) would lead to a thorough US arse kicking in a conventional war.

Uncle Sam   August 11th, 2008 - 12:00 pm

“…would lead to a thorough US arse kicking in a conventional war.”

It’s me against the world… Regardless of the outcome, we both lose…

Airwick   August 11th, 2008 - 12:10 pm

The Russians are guilty of a “disproportionate response” in attacking Georgia AFTER Georgia attacked South Ossetia killing Russians as well as civilians. Gee Mr. President, by “disproportionate response” do you mean like preemptively attacking a country that never attacked us and never threatened us? Ooops!

Barney   August 11th, 2008 - 12:32 pm

Sort of like bombing the crap out of Afghanistan to send a message to 3000 terrorist who are now in Pakistan… After the civilian deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US has nothing to say. Maybe the US can rent gulag space in Guantanamo to the Russians since that is illegal in the former USSR now.

Airwick   August 11th, 2008 - 12:56 pm

Barney,
The Russians don’t even have to do that. All they have to do is declare captured Georgians “enemy combatants” and sent them to “detention centers” in Siberia until the “conflict ends”. Of course the “end” of the conflict depends upon your point of view so they can keep them there indefinitely. All they have to do is follow our fine example. Thanks for showing the World the way, Mr. President. Perhaps you should send that Dick, Cheney, to them so that he can oversee things.

Flyoverman   August 11th, 2008 - 1:49 pm

Deploy three wings of F-15’s and a wing of F-22’s to Turkey. Stage three or four Patriot Battalions for deployment and let the Russians know our attack subs have entered the Baltic and start shipping air defense systems especially Stingers in quantity to Georgia.

When the fighting stops invite all former Soviet Republics who have not already joined, to join NATO. Then call Putin up and ask him, How are things?”

dswilli   August 11th, 2008 - 1:59 pm

Only a moronic left winger would think this was a “response” to Georgian provocation. The fact that the Russian’s were able to launch a full scale invasion in hours proves this was a planned operation. Russian “peacekeepers” (AKA military advisers) helped separatists (AKA Russian stooges) to provoke Georgia by rocket/mortar attacks. As I’ve stated earlier the Georgians foolishly took the bait. But to equate the Russian response to our response in Iraq is insulting. If you hate America so much get the hell out. You blame America first clowns are cowards who are afraid to confront true evil. So you insult our president and our troops because you somehow want to show your “worldly view”. In my book you’re nothing but cowards. If the “Euro” view is the correct one then hit the road, you won’t be missed.

Randy   August 11th, 2008 - 2:31 pm

“We can’t overtly start bombing Russian positions.”

Yeah, can’t means won’t. You don’t have the will to win. Our fine young men and women can take out these crud monkeys in 48 hours. They have the can-do spirit, not your can’t-do lack of spine.

Hey, dswilli, it’s appeasers like you who have ruined this once-great country. We sure can start bombing Russian positions and we better start right now while you are still holding hands and singing Kumbya.

It’s amazing Chamberlain still has groupies and you are still swooning over his Peace in Our Time. I’ll bet you listen to his speech 10 times a day. Hey heres a hint, close your umbrella and shove it.

Airwick   August 11th, 2008 - 2:54 pm

Hey, Randy, since you know so much about history, do you really think that the Munich Accords were the reason for Chamberlain’s fall from power? Referring to recent events, do you really believe that the proper way to deal with this situation is to “take out these crud monkeys 48 hours”? What about the nukes the Russians have, not to mention a massive army and air force just minutes from the front? Do you think that they are just going to stand around and watch?

Dswilli, are you really a “Kumbya” singing “appeaser”? Wow! I may disagree with you on many points, but somehow I never thought of you as such. I always thought that you were a little far on the Right. I agree with you that the Russians had a “plan” in place prior to the Georgian “provocation”. We do the same thing. I am sure that there is a “plan” or “plans” in place in case military action is initiated against Iran. That does not necessarily mean that we will attack, but if the Iranians are stupid enough to hit our fleet in the Gulf, I am sure that we have something in place to counter strike. This is essentially what the Russians did. The Georgians should have known better. They committed an age old blunder—they started a fight that they could not finish. What on Earth did they think (or DID they think) the Russians would do in response?

JC   August 11th, 2008 - 3:24 pm

Dswilli “A few shoulder launch anti aircraft missiles would go a long way”

That’s right willi!!! Lets give them some American SAMs and then watch the Russians nuke them into oblivion!! At least think ahead… What do you think the reaction of the Russian air force would be… John McCain knows!! BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB…

If Texas were going communist and we were trying to bring them under control, there would be zero tolerance for Russian interference THEN wouldn’t there…

Times like this take brilliant leaders in the military, government, and State Department. Unfortunately, we only have imbeciles and theie stooge cronies now. They were just placed for political favors rather than their being capable of handling a crisis. That retarded McCain would actually be far worse. He probably wouldn’t mind being America’s last president who fought WWIII. None of his fathers even came close to topping that!

Looks like the republicans have plenty of wars now. And Bush is still going to bomb Iran after the election and then Iran is going to storm into Iraq! Weeee!!! WAR, WAR, WAR!!!

Sean   August 11th, 2008 - 4:43 pm

Russia had to have planned this a long time ago. The Russian army could not have just got up and invaded with the success they have enjoyed so far unless this was planned long in advance.

Georgia may have been stupid to grasp the bait, but this is the second attempt by Russia to draw them out.

This conflict was inevitable as long as Comrade Putin was in charge.
