Bush Credits ‘Success of the Surge’ for Lowest Level of Violence in Iraq Since 2004

"This has been a month of encouraging news from Iraq. Violence is down to its lowest level since the spring of 2004, and we're now in our third consecutive month with reduced violence levels holding steady. General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker caution that the progress is still reversible, but they report that there now appears to be a 'degree of durability' to the gains we have made."

Thanks to our hero soldiers in Iraq and no thanks to the democrat party and their mouthpieces, Pelosi/Reid/Obama. Hussein Obama still cannot even bring himself to admit he was wrong, that the surge championed by President Bush has worked just like he said it would. The democrats are wrong on so many fronts, its tough to keep up with all their nonsense. We don’t need this bunch of hate America firsters in charge of our military and country.

Jimbo   July 31st, 2008 - 10:45 am

God what a moron!

Fishturd   July 31st, 2008 - 10:51 am

Yes, thanks to the soldiers. That’s all you had to say. You talk about nonsense? Look at the last 8 years and tell me your happy with what has happened. And please, the Hussein Obama thing is tired. It shows that you’re ignorant and you’re scared…you’re a sheep…you’ve done everything Bush has told you to do. How does that propaganda taste? No one hates America, but you sure do preach a lot of hate for fellow Americans. You should be ashamed of yourself. You’re the reason we need change.

Wolfen   July 31st, 2008 - 11:26 am

Ok moron now its time for a “Surge” to protect our southern borders from the illegal invasion that you and your idiotic administration have ignored and even encouraged. Since 2001 nearly 50,000 American citizens have died because of the actions of illegals. These actions include DUI’s, criminal acts, or just plain accidents. Either way 50,000 American Citizens lives have been snuffed out by someone who should not be in this country in the first place.

m-antony   July 31st, 2008 - 11:39 am

Petraeus 2012 for President. Give the man another star,he deserves to be a 5 star general.

Thank you Mr. Bush , the last 8 years ,have been the most profitable of my 23 year employment career. Thanks for your leadership as Commander in Chief!I am one of the 28% that think you are responsible for keeping out terrorism and having the insight to do what is right. All your detractors probably do not realize what a thankless job you have. I am sure they think they could do better.

Loki   July 31st, 2008 - 11:42 am

If Iraq can be made to stand as a democracy in the middle east then history will be far kinder to Bush than the press has been.

Jon   July 31st, 2008 - 11:44 am

Yes, thanks to the soldiers. That’s all you had to say. You talk about nonsense? Look at the last 8 years and tell me you REALLY don’t KNOW kicking the jhadist’s teath in wasn’t a GREAT thing for the world. And please, the YOUR SCARED thing is tired. It shows that you’re ignorant and you’re scared…you’re a sheep…you’ve done everything Pelosi / Reid has told you to do. How does that propaganda taste? No one hates America, but you sure do preach a lot of hate for America. You should be ashamed of yourself. You’re the reason we need a leader who will LEAD the nation, not FOLLOW the polls.

No attack on American soil since 9-11, Radical islam is laughing their arses off at the posibility of obama being elected. islam only respects power not diplomacy. Look at history morons you have to drive muslims out they don’t just leave, and they don’t love FREEDOM.

Spec   July 31st, 2008 - 1:52 pm

Bush is the greatest military stradigist since Napolian, The Surge worked and worked and worked good

. We’ve got the Muslims on the Run, they can Run but they cannot hide. The cut and runners can cut and run but they cannot win. Winners never quit and quitters never win.

We have brought Freedom to Iraq. They love us for it, they are our friends and will help us defeat Terorism forever unless Hussain bin Obama and the libtarts ruin it. . It is time to double down our eforts and surge and surge again. If we surge some more we can declare Mision Acomplised!!!

Real Citizen   July 31st, 2008 - 2:02 pm

m-anthony: Thank you Mr. Bush , the last 8 years ,have been the most profitable of my 23 year employment career.

Hey, buddy, you sound like one of those libs that credits the Governement for everything. People have to stop depending on the government for everything and stand on their own two feet. You people with government jobs have done well in the last 8 years, I’ll grant you that. You are working less and getting more money and Bush has expanded government spending to a record high. I don’t begrudge you that you have been lining your pockets with all that government money, but don’t forget it is money being borrowed from Saudi Arabia and Red China.

Do yourself a favor and get off the government teat and get a real job. You might make less money and have to work for a change but you’ll feel better about yourself. That goes for the rest of your liberal buddies too.

Jon   July 31st, 2008 - 2:14 pm

The last 8 year have been VERY profitable for me too and I DONT work for the government or for a company who has a contract with the government. It’s simply that the ecconomy has been SENSATIONAL and the ONLY thing bringing down the ecconomy to ONLY growing at 1.9% instead of 3% is China’s and India’s induction into the Industrial Era.

Work harder people, MILLIONS of welfare recipients are counting on us.

cognitive dissident   July 31st, 2008 - 2:16 pm

there’s one problem with this, Bush.

Why should we believe any of your hype? The president who cried wolf, indeed.

Garyo B   July 31st, 2008 - 3:23 pm

You are right, Jon @ 11:44AM. That poser fishturd is a hate America firster, like fishburg said. He’s another cut-’n-runner, appeaser who is eager to follow celebobama and scoop up his turds whenever he drops ‘em. A mung mouthed putz wacker is what he is and I don’t consider him a “fellow American”.

SoCal Patriot   July 31st, 2008 - 3:37 pm

Poor liberal airwick, still in denial and stuck on stupid…

Flyoverman   July 31st, 2008 - 4:42 pm

The major thing the surge provided was the troops needed in the battle space that were unavailable, because of the troops lost helping to train the Iraqi Army from 2005 – 2007.

Sufficient MASS, i.e. troop numbers was achieved by the sudden appearance of US and now proficient and trainied Iraqi forces. People who before were fearful, started fingering the foreign fighters, becasue there were troops present to protect them.. It just snowballed from there. In terms of the Sunnis, I think it is uniquely American to say to your enemy, “if you want to shake hands, war’s over.” I support that. I give you Germany and Japan as examples.

We went into the right place for the right reasons. We had to relearn lost lessons, but in the end we did and we are prevailing. Hooooah.

Sean   July 31st, 2008 - 4:50 pm

“Cody July 31st, 2008 – 4:51 pm

When the Republicans were in control of Congress we were losing the war but now that the Democrats are in charge, we are winning.”

Really? And just what did Congress do that accomplished this? Was it their constant attempts to underfund the troops? Or giving away battle intel via soundbites?

Cody   July 31st, 2008 - 4:51 pm

When the Republicans were in control of Congress we were losing the war but now that the Democrats are in charge, we are winning.

Sally   July 31st, 2008 - 9:45 pm

Why are we even bothering to try to make sense to fools. I agree with the talk show hosts who say liberalism is a mental disease. We should do like as they do with horses; shoot them when they can no longer perform. It’s a waste of resources to even try to explain something so simple to these clowns. The Democrats on the Hill are still walking around saying the surge did not work but some of you jokers are saying it worked because of this dumb reason, or the other. Make up your minds people. BUSH is the man! He has outsmarted the Dumbocrats over and over again and they are too DUMB to know it. Who is the village idiot now?

PullOUT   July 31st, 2008 - 11:46 pm

Pelosi, Reid and Obama are the reasons that the violence has reduced.

PULL OUT NOW, NOT TOMORROW!

Viva Obama!

einexile   August 1st, 2008 - 11:58 am

Good grief, you conservatives in this thread sound like you are auditioning for a 1990s talk radio show. If you want Bush to be given his due, insults and namecalling aren’t the way to make it happen. This is no better than the fascism / war criminal rhetoric to which some on the left resort. Remember that it is those of us who harbor no ill will toward Bush *or* Obama who will decide the outcome of the election.

n0mad   August 1st, 2008 - 2:27 pm

“Remember that it is those of us who harbor no ill will toward Bush *or* Obama who will decide the outcome of the election.”

So funny, too bad Bush isn’t running again. I could care less if you give Bush his “due”. Frankly, that’s the difference b/w conservatives and liberals. Conservatives are not dependent on what you think or feel. We can stand on our own 2 feet without a handout or pity or some shmuck who gives us tingly feelings. Liberals, well, the other half of the bell curve, they feel, they need to be taken care of by a nanny-state, they need someone to tell them they did good. Usually, in my experience, they need conservatives, the independent types to give them that pat on the back. I guess we will always have this dichotomy, I just hope it doesn’t lead to our ruin.
