Caught on Camera: NYPD Cop Beats Man With Baton During Arrest
WNBC: The NYPD has temporarily taken away the badge and gun of the baton-wielding officer and placed him on desk duty as investigators review his repeated strikes on July 4 against a suspect who was allegedly resisting arrest.
Cops aren’t paid to wrestle with animals in the gutter. Beatings and tazings are great for animals such as this.
MotissaJuly 30th, 2008 - 12:35 pm
He was resisting arrest, kicking at the cops, refusing to put his hands behind his back. The cop did the right thing here. Just listen to all the animals in the background muttering “Why you doin’ dat? Wud choo doin’ dat fo?”. Release his rap sheet, betcha its a mile long. Drugs, stealing, shoplifting, etc. This is typical for these animals.

That bike check the other day was totally uncalled for, but people must realize here that this guy is resisting arrest. They struggle and struggle to handcuff him and he won’t let them. It may not look like he’s doing much but he’s got the officers in a serious situation that’s escalating every moment. They will get fatigued, the onlookers could get involved, and if they don’t secure him quick they’ll lose control over the whole situation and put everyone’s lives in danger. Very frustrating, and looks horrendous, but no permanent damage and it was the safest move for all of them.

Another animal (in uniform) using senseless violence. Yep…to protect and serve! Right…now tell me another one.
Not news!July 30th, 2008 - 12:49 pm
This cop was justified in my opinion. Looks to me that he was told MANY times to put his hand behind his back and was struggling with the cops. It’s called resisting arrest and CAN be a felony!
Man was not complying and resisting and that is a no-no. Do as the officers say and they won’t hurt you. They are people too with a tough job and I don’t envy them when they get some combatant like this guy.
Plus the batons hurt & are cool items. We like them.
Sorry, but is it racist to note that the cop doing the beating is black? Is this another “black-on-black” crime? Would it be a “hate crime” if the white cop was doing the beating?
Claus WJuly 30th, 2008 - 1:11 pm
The cops are simply doing what is called maintaining order. You have to show strength and put the fear into the neighborhood or otherwise they will run all over you. It’s exactly what we went into Iraq to do. We needed to show the other bullies in the region how strong and ruthless we are. And it worked just eh way we expected! Iran, Yemen, all those terrorist harboring countries, have behaved themselves mightily nice since we went in and beat the living xxxx out of the Iraqis. Nobody is going to mess with US.

Only part of the incident can be seen, so it is not possible to sit in judgement of the person on the ground, or the law officers. All that can be said is that the law is clear: once a police officer decides to arrest a person, that person is obligated to cooperate with the officer’s instructions. If force is required for the officer to take the person into custody, then the officer is entitled to use force. Dispute the arrest later, not during the arrest.

CORRECTED: Caught on Camera: NYPD Cop Beats Man With Baton RESISTING Arrest.
BigEdJuly 30th, 2008 - 2:36 pm
Black on Black violence. Too bad. He should have complied with the police officer’s orders to submit. He’s going to jail with or without an ass whipping. He chose the latter.
Man was definately resisting, cop should have gone for the head, only one smack would have been necessary.
olddogJuly 30th, 2008 - 2:39 pm
The worst thing NYPD could do was put this police officer on a “desk job”. That makes him guilty in the eyes of those in that neighborhood, which may result in rioting. He did what he was paid to do when someone is resisting arrest. Don’t they use tasers or stun guns in NY? Would have made things much easier for everyone involved.

What you White European Americans need to do is get a Legal Concealed Carry Permit. These people do NOT WANT you Armed.
Next, learn to use it VERY WELL.
Next, carry your pocket rocket EVERYWHERE.
Next, prepare yourself mentally to take out the perp with no 2nd thought or regret! Don’t allow that sucker punch to occur! Shoot them within a 21 Ft. distance to be legal!
Do Not hesitate for that one second or they will reach you.
Don’t be a victim as you will have a legal means to use deadly force.
Powerful medicine for the illness that has taken over the U.S.
Since most White$ are not Felons We can
Pick up a Pocket Rocket at a good price here:
There are a lot of bad cops out there abusing authority (and abusing citizens). However, this cop doesn’t look like one of them to me. He has clearly been found guilty on youtube court, but if you notice, he only ever hits the guy on the legs. He is trying to distract the perpetrator enough that the other cop can cuff him. He could have used a taser, but I suspect they have gotten enough bad press lately that the big city cops would rather use their guns.
TomBrooklynJuly 30th, 2008 - 3:44 pm
Cop acted reasonably. Man was resisting arrest. Next.
Protect and Serve Who?July 30th, 2008 - 4:07 pm
I wonder if the cheerleading on this blog would be so evident if the guy being beaten was white instead of black. Somehow I don’t think so…
DavidJuly 30th, 2008 - 4:29 pm
From what I saw the man was reflexively defending himself from being hit. It is not natural to put your hands behind your back when someone is wailing on you with a club. There were three officers there. Couldn’t they just cuff him? They weren’t even trying to, they just let the one officer whack away so hard he couldn’t even hold on to the club.
But since torture is now an accepted part of our national policy this seems to be par for the course.
Get used to it.
George Washington would be sad to see what has become to a once great country.

Points for reference on being black or White:
U.S.A. blacks have an average I..Q of 85
U.S.A. Whites have an average I..Q. of 100
BIG DIFFERENCE in Intelligence !!!!!!!
85 at least used to be clinically designated as a “moronâ€
just below that is a “imbecileâ€
then an idiot
To be P.C. below are the terms that are now used. Figure it out yourselves what the black race is that we White European Americans are dealing with!
“Four categories of intellectual disability have traditionally been used – mild, moderate, severe and profound – based upon I..Q assessments, where an I..Q of 100 is average.â€

I hope the cop hit him a couple of times for me,
TinaJuly 30th, 2008 - 5:44 pm
He was resisting and you could see it. Who knows how long he’s been trying to get the cuffs on and here the guy is raising his legs up like he’s going somewhere or is going to kick him. I guess if the guy was on drugs that would explain it, but you’re going to get beat if you resist and the officer thinks you’re making a move.

Mike in Santa FeJuly 30th, 2008 - 6:17 pm
First of all, don’t resist arrest and you won’t get hit by an officer with a baton.
I guess they should have used a TASER instead?
SplungeJuly 30th, 2008 - 6:33 pm
How does lying in the street while being beaten with a club constitute “resisting arrest?”
tootsieJuly 30th, 2008 - 6:39 pm
Looks to me like he was getting a well deserved spanking for not obeying the law. Sorry Splunge, but the video I see does not show him ‘lying in the street’. He is definitely moving a lot and not in compliance with either officer’s requests. Gosh, now we are going blind?
RalphJuly 30th, 2008 - 6:41 pm
They guy resisted, it makes no difference color of either one; the officer or the guy getting hit, I mean what do you cop haters expect, for the cops to say: Oh well, I guess he doesn’t want to go to jail, let’s just go get some doughnuts?!?
Beat Em All DownJuly 30th, 2008 - 9:30 pm
Don’t resist, don’t get beaten. Simple.
But no, it’s ingrained into thugs like this by the Gangsta-rap industry to “fight the man”.
Well this is what happens in real life. You get beaten.
He wouldn’t role over and allow the officers to cuff him. I would beat him too (if I was an officer). Luckily the officer doing the beating was black, otherwise cries of racism would fly!

Nothing I like seeing better than a worthless Spoook getting a good beat down. I would have just shot the piece of shytt myself.

I agree that resisting arrrest warrants an escalation of force, but the comments from the disgusting racists make me want to vomit.
Nothing like being a keyboard cowboy when you can say hateful crap and not be held accountable for it.
MikeJuly 31st, 2008 - 9:49 am
The suspect is actively resisting arrest. I can hear the officer who isn’t striking him asking him to give him his hand for handcuffing. He never gives any indication of compliance.
Someone mentioned the spectators railing on the officers as all of this is going on. Good observation.
As a retired police officer, I can tell you that there is an element of grave danger inherent to police officers struggling with a suspect resisting like that. Why isn’t he complying even when struck with the baton? Is he waiting for the crowd, which clearly isn’t supportive of the police to come to his aid? Is he stalling to allow that? Trust me when I say it’s a definite possibility.
The objective of any arrest is to take the suspect into custody and get both the suspect and the police out safely.
As for the baton strikes, the officer strikes him in areas the weapon is intended to be used on.
All the suspect had to do is give the officers his hands for cuffing and none of this would’ve happened. My guess is he was quite familiar with the process before this incident occurred as most law-abiding citizens, even if they question why they’re being arrested, cooperate.
There’s nothing pleasant for the officers involved in that situation like that. As the article notes, the officer who used the baton is now off the streets and under investigation, his badge and gun taken from him. Even if everyone around him tells him he did nothing wrong and he is cleared of wrongdoing as I am certain he will be, an officer’s badge is special to him.
I feel far more sorry for the officer’s pain than the pain the suspect felt from those strikes. He could’ve ended his suffering in a second; the officer’s misery will go on far longer as the court of public opinion judges him which more times than not does so poorly.
What a fool.July 31st, 2008 - 11:13 am
He is resisting arrest, the cops were justified. “Just tase him bro!”
Justified and AncientJuly 31st, 2008 - 1:32 pm
Like this perp doesn’t know how to place both of his arms behind his back to get cuffed! He knows the drill, n word please!!
If you think that was bad, I was a cop in Miami for 22 years; 13 of them as an undercover detective in the REAl Miami Vice. I wrote a book entitled: “REFLECTIONS FROM THE PIT” which pulls no punches; it shows you the good, the bad and the ugly (warts and all, including police brutality); the dark side of police work, both the humor and the tragedy. There are always two sides to this question, but sometimes enough is enough.
Well all of you who take the cops side answer this: Was this a lawful arrest ? A lot of times its not and you do have a right to resist even to the point of killing the cop.
All I see are poorly trained pigs who cant resist the chance to beat someone. What these pigs need is a beat down themselves.
Big deal. Kudos to the cops.
