Terms are not racist, but sometimes their usage can be. John Kerry used the term appropriately and in the proper context. This is very different than calling someone that term derogatorily.
You can tell Kerry is lying when his lips move.
Kerry is the typical, racist republikan. He should be impeached, but in a compassionate way.
Obama will cleanse us.
Did Kennedy write this down for him ? Or that nut job Fagan? Is he calling ogumby a tar baby? Look up tar baby in the urban dictionary. Pretty damn funny.

Republican? LOL God help us! 1 glass of Kool-Aid for no mo….
Swiftboating -
i.e. Telling the TRUTH about the left.
I watched the interview this morning and just couldn’t believe my ears! I don’t care what the definition is, the general connotation is one that has racial overtones. Anyone that has any connection to the South knows that. Perhaps it is because Kerry is a Yankee that puts him in a place that thinks such a term is acceptable. The Sunday talk shows are going to have a field day!
Kerry continues to prove over and over again, that if not for him, Al Gore would be the biggest buffoon to have ever served in the US Senate.
Obviously, Kerry never read Uncle Remus. A tar baby is racist? Too funny.
Also Democrat4McCain July 22nd, 2008 – 4:14 pm You can tell Kerry is lying when his lips move.
I do not believe you. With all the Botox how could his lips move?
You know what? That John Kerry is as smooth as Smack Baby’s ass.
Geeez John, You can’t loose this election with stupid comments.
Don’t worry the media will blame the Republicans.
Barrack Hussein Obama is only half tar, stupid…
And who is this John Kerry guy? Is he supposed to be someone of any significance? Someone whose words are supposed to have gravitas, or meaning? I don’t think so. He’s just another Democrat loser who married wealth, and has avoided real work his entire life.
Barrack Hussein Obama is only half tar, stupid…
Damn,John, get back under your rock!11
Robels wrote: “Kerry continues to prove over and over again, that if not for him, Al Gore would be the biggest buffoon to have ever served in the US Senate.” I’d add Teddy-boy Kennedy to that group.
It’s quite apparent that any McCain attack on Obama will be considered racist by the liberals.
It’s okay for a liberal to use this kind of language. It’s racism if anyone else does…at least that’s what they teach you in the re-education camps.
Tar Baby… Eenie Meenie Minie Mo… Black Hole…
Pretty soon, we will be restricted by race baiters to a handful of words; and all of them will be anti-White Christian Male American.
Go figure….the Democrat Party has tried to mask their racist attitude since the Civil War and the American Sheeple keep buying their crud….when will American’s wake up and see who the real racists in America are?????
The Racist Mr Kerry needs to be informed of the effectiveness of the little ol’ tar baby. He was designed by Berer Fox to trap Berer Rabbit. He’d had that ol’ long ear for his breakfas’ if’b he hadn’t got caught too. Don’t you all go a messin’ wit dat ol’ tar baby, He ends up catch’n “U” too. An’ Lausiah me, Mr Kerry, you kan’t aford or Chevy either to gets caught up in dat tar baby. Tar Babiy is awful strong or ain’t you learned nothin’.
When has that pinko Kerry ever been a Republican, “no mo hate”? Anyway, another rich Dem (somebody elses $) defending a newly rich Dem, Osa…oops…Obama
1.It’s part of a deeper message to McCain that anything he says against Obama will be taken as racist.
2.Kerry,Clinton,Kennedy,Biden,and many other lefies have used racist terms but get away with it…i.e. Jesse Jackson. But,if anyone who they don’r like even says something THEY consider racist it’s scream time. Obama has been using this card for months now.
Vote McCain if you want to save our country from all this Marxist insanity!
Let’s keep the race issue out of politics, keep the white house white
The Democrats for decades made false claims against Republicans as being racist for political advantage even tho”they” continue to use racist terms to describe Black Americans. Today Democrat John Kerry ads his name to there list of national leaders.
Who really cares about what this Windbag has to say. His time is past. With any luck, Obama will join him in the “Irrelevant US senators who do nothing for their country” column in the history books.
Liberals, please ask yourselves why you are pushing so hard for a candidate who is unqualified to be President. I can’t stand John McCain, but the fact that he is at least qualified means that for most of us, this will be another “lesser of two evils” election. Obama has done nothing as US senator. He surrounds himself with racists and anti-americans. He has no foreign policy experience. He’s not forthcoming about questions regarding his childhood. He refuses to reach across the aisle to work with republicans. He has not put forth any legislation in his tenure as senator. He has already discussed rolling back the Bush tax cuts, which for middle class folks like myself means disaster. He’s already playing the race card, which is dispicable and speaks volumes about his lack of character. The man is a completely empty suit, yet you worship him as if he were a rock star. He has nothing to say that has any substance. This guy is NOT the type of change this country needs right now. We need a leader, not a motivational speaker. Obama is no leader, he’s a fraud.

One jerk speaks in support of another jerk. Has Johnnnnn Kerryyyyy ever screwed on one single Katchup bottle lid for an honest days living. And Obama, the man is so arrogant(something he an John kerry have in common)that he couldn’t give credit for the surge, thus enabling his candy rear’s safety while in Iraq. During his comments in Jordan, one could make little sense of his stumbling and stammering about subjects he had little grasp. He made Bush look like an orator on par with Cicero*.
For Obama deciples: Oratory master of the Roman Empire.
Please do your research before running such a libelous, inflammatory headline! As others have noted, “tarbaby” is NOT a racist term. How about retracting this piece of trash and having Drudge do the same?
Surely a politician won’t be viciously attacked due to such a niggardly issue using the term tar-baby. (That kind of thing only happens to Republicans).
Dejavu: from CBS News July 31, 2006
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/31/politics/main1851199.shtml
Gov. Mitt Romney has apologized for referring to the city’s troubled highway commuter tunnel project as a “tar baby” during a fundraiser with Iowa Republicans, saying he did not know anyone would be offended by the term some consider a racial epithet.
In a speech Saturday, Romney, a Republican considering a run for president in 2008, acknowledged he took a big political risk in taking control of the project after a fatal tunnel ceiling collapse, but said inaction would have been even worse.
“The best thing politically would be to stay as far away from that tar baby as I can,” he told a crowd of about 100 supporters in Ames, Iowa.
Black leaders were outraged at his use of the term, which dates to the 19th century Uncle Remus stories by journalist Joel Chandler Harris. The term refers to a doll made of tar that traps Br’er Rabbit, the main characters in the series of stories. It has come to be known as a way of describing a sticky mess — and has been used as a derogatory term for a black person.
“Tar baby is a totally inappropriate phrase in the 21st century,” said Larry Jones, a black Republican and civil rights activist.
“He thinks he’s presidential timber,” Jones said. “But all he’s shown us is arrogance.”
Romney’s spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said the governor was describing “a sticky situation.”
“He was unaware that some people find the term objectionable and he’s sorry if anyone’s offended,” Fehrnstrom said.
White House spokesman Tony Snow sparked similar criticism in May when he used the term in response to a question about government surveillance.
“Brer Fox, he sorter chuckle in his stummick, he did, but Tar-Baby ain’t sayin’ nothin’.
“‘I’m gwine ter larn you how ter talk ter ’spectubble folks ef hit’s de las’ ack,’ sez Brer Rabbit, sezee. ‘Ef you don’t take off dat hat en tell me howdy, I’m gwine ter bus’ you wide open,’ sezee.
“Tar-Baby stay still, en Brer Fox, he lay low.
“Brer Rabbit keep on axin’ ‘im, en de Tar-Baby, she keep on sayin’ nothin’, twel present’y Brer Rabbit draw back wid his fis’, he did, en blip he tuck ‘er side er de head. Right dar’s whar he broke his merlasses jug. His fis’ stuck, en he can’t pull loose. De tar hilt ‘im. But Tar-Baby, she stay still, en Brer Fox, he lay low.
“`Ef you don’t lemme loose, I’ll knock you agin,’ sez Brer Rabbit, sezee, en wid dat he fotch ‘er a wipe wid de udder han’, en dat stuck. Tar-Baby, she ain’y sayin’ nuthin’, en Brer Fox, he lay low.
“`Tu’n me loose, fo’ I kick de natal stuffin’ outen you,’ sez Brer Rabbit, sezee, but de Tar-Baby, she ain’t sayin’ nuthin’. She des hilt on, en de Brer Rabbit lose de use er his feet in de same way. McCain stayed in Hanoi until his comrades got out when he was offered a release, kerry, you bleed, some say by your own hands and hauled butt, then lied to Congress. get out of under my feet you idiot kerry
Kerry is Democrate not a Republican so tho who say he is need to research alil better. ALso Only A Democrate can use a term Tarbaby and get away with it but if a Republican says something the may be construde as racist at a birthday party for a 100 year old man there is blood in the water wanting to Linch the man.
Hey,
If black hole and devil’s food cake is a racist comment then certainly Tar-Baby is regardless of what it really means. I bet if you said Tar-Baby to a black person you’d be accused of racism.
can John Kerry pleased be banned from TV, BO has Friend who wants always seem to cut his nuts off, the politics of change your mind
Mr. Kerry, I believe you already lost this contest once and sir, your fifteen minutes are up.
If a Republican had said this it would be headline news. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would lead the riot in Washington demanding his apology and immediate resignation. They would also call for a concregtional investigation on race relations in the United States. They would also rekindle the fires of reparations to all African-Americans.
But, it was a liberal Democrat so it’s OK because he didn’t really mean it in a bad way.
WHAT’S ALL THE CONFUSION ABOUT?
I don’t understand why some people are so confused about wheather any given statement is racist or not. It’s really quite simple…just see if there’s an ‘R’ or a ‘D’ next to their name. ‘R’ makes the statement racist…’D’ makes it non-racist.
In the old Uncle Remus story Tar Baby was a DOLL made of tar to catch a rabbit. No humans were in the tale. Nothing to do with race. Maybe Kerry should have used the term “red herring” and offended the Indians.
Hey John(i served in Vietnam)Kerry.SHUT YOU FUCcKING POMPOUS MOULTH.
God I pray that you ignorant rednecks aren’t out their procreating to earn an extra ration of government cheese for your double-wide. I am actually surprised you got someone to read the article to you.
I challenge any of you to go to Harlem and say that phrase. THEN come back and tell me it’s not racist. It’s an extremely racist term.
And some of you idiots wanted this guy to be President. LOL
Tar Babies at night, sailor’s delight.
Tar Babies in the morning, sailors take warning.
John Kerry is almost the biggest so-called educated idiot on earth, ranks right up there obama,
his wife , harry (wimp) reid, and nancy pelosi.
Bottom Line: If a NON liberal said this it WOULD become a racially charged issue and we would hear about it til the cows came home. But John “I’m reporting for duty” (but I threw away my medals! – oh no I didn’t really) Kerry said it so he WILL get a free pass just like The “Reverand” Jackson did last week. Hmmm…Note to all of you. When are you going to wake up and realize that pretty much all politicians are parasites, devoid of any real morality, save that which serves their own purposes and ambitions? Any person who makes their living off the backs of the people and enjoys benefits that are superior to those they serve, are morally defunct.
Remember that the founders of our country took no pay for their services. They were men who SERVED the people (for the most part, but parasites existed even then). Many of them in fact spent their fortunes helping our nation during it’s creation. Find me a man like that! A Jefferson, an Adams, Franklin, Henry, Paine. Don’t tell me Obama is that guy. Now I do respect McCain’s service, he truly is an American hero and warrior, but as a politician he is an opportunist with no clear ideology…and even though idealogues seem to viewed as radicals, it takes an idealogue to become a true leader.
John Kerry, is a clown, plain and simple. He is exactly the type of Parasite I am talking about. His history shows him to be a personal embellesher, glory hound and opportunist. Where McCain is a true warrior, Kerry is a mere wannabe.
But I can say there is no modern Politician I admire, no statesman, no leader, no thoughtful and quiet deep thinker…except perhaps Antonin Scalia and he’s a Scotus Judge and not a Pol at all….
Melissa in NorCal: Thanks for writing the post I was going to write. “Tar Baby” is a racist term only to illiterates. Tony Snow used it correctly in his first news conference to refer to a loaded question. His use was as unoffensive as Kerry’s
Why the LONG FACE John? Tar Baby is a racist comment just like Nappy Headed Ho’s!
I think all the Tar Babies should ask “Why the Long Face” John Kerry to say he’s sorry.
Tar Babies Unite for Obama!!!What a freakin joke.
Sorry, tar-baby is a racist comment. You can beleive the fit would have hit the shan if a republican had said this…BTW Why is it that the democrats elevate losers to “expert/hero” status when they LOSE? E.G. Jimmy Carter, Jesse Jackson, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore etc. etc..
Tar-Baby is not a racist term or image. It is from the “Uncle Remus Tales” which were Folk stories published in the early 1900’s (I believe). Brother Fox takes tar, creates a person, and sits him on the road and waits for Brother Rabbit to come by. Brother Rabbit comes by and trys to talk to Tar-Baby who obviously can’t carry a conversation. Rabbit becomes indignant, wants to teach Tar-Baby a lesson, and starts to hit and punch him until he is glued to him and caught…and Brother Fox now has him prisoner. It is a retelling of a very old myth called “Sticky Man” from Asia where a prince meets the Sticky Man in the forest and decides, out of pride, to teach him a lesson. All his weapons including hands, feet, and eventually head become stuck to Sticky Man. Only when the prince realizes his wrongful pride is he released to go his way. It’s got nothing to do with race. Perhaps the PC crowd perceive that something else is involved but that is due to their shameful ignorance.
@ Brian:
“I challenge any of you to go to Harlem and say that phrase. THEN come back and tell me it’s not racist. It’s an extremely racist term.”
That actually says more about the residents of Harlem than anything else. Oh yeah, they can’t be racists, can they?
Debbie said; “Perhaps it is because Kerry is a Yankee that puts him in a place that thinks such a term is acceptable.” I was born in Boston grew up in Maine and knew 50 or more years ago what “tarbaby” ment. It was not a nice term.
First off I am not a fan of John Kerry. If the proper use of the phrase “tar baby” in context is racist than so is anyword that describes something that is the color black, (maybe we should expand it to brown or gray ’cause that’s getting close to black), all of these words must be racist as well. Perhaps sharpies, magic markers, and black crayons should be banned. Uh oh, I drive on raods made of black top, I must be a racist as well.

I detest (politically) John Kerry as a vapid elitist but to try to twist his comment into a “racial” epitaph is ridiculous. Whatever happened to critical thinking in this country? From many of the comments here it seems apparent that the public schools have been successful in churning out mindless ignorance and mouthy confrontational aggressiveness.

Hey whitey!!! You ain’t got any business telling us what is and is not racist. Besides critical thinking is only used as often as the spell check function.
To mary jo/no more hate. You are ignorant. John Kerry is a dummycrat, always has been. He was the democrat challenger to president Bush in 2004. You are a dummass
Seriously, Kerry’s comment may be appalling to some, but it should be shocking to nobody.
What’s more repugnant to me is the absolutely unmitigated demagoguery that comes out of Obama and his surrogates (Kerry in this case). Obama gets the Democratic nomination by appealing to the anti-war base, and then his rush to the center revolves around the idea that the war in Afghanistan is not as unpopular as the one in Iraq. So he can make good on his promise to end the war in Iraq, while appearing not too be too much of a liberal so that he can swing the votes of moderates in the general election. But the premise that the war on terror is and ought to be centered in Afghanistan is fundamentally wrong, and they know it. Fighting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan is akin to fighting the Nazis in Northern Africa during WWII. It’s important, but it’s certainly not close to being the center of the war. From a standpoint of strategic military and political interest, Iraq is by far the most important piece of territory in the Middle East. If al-Qaeda — Iran and Syria’s surrogates too for that matter — can be defeated in the geo-political center of the Middle East, it will make for a definite advantage in the overall progress of the war. So certainly, we need some more brigades in Afghanistan, as President Bush, and now Senators Obama and Kerry suggest. But that does not mean abandoning the more strategically crucial war in Iraq.
Kerry need to be sent to a mandatory diversity training camp.Obamas new civilian militia can reeducate the haughty and racist John Kerry

A “tar baby” is not a racist comment. It is from the southern cartoon briar rabbit and friends. In that episode, the rabbit hugged a “tar baby” the Brer Foc had made to catch him because tar is sticky. When you say “tar baby”, you mean sometihng that once you’ve touched it, it is hard to shake off. I think he was saying the issue was a “tar baby”, or one that won’t go away.
