Christian Bale Tells NPR the Batman Suit Stirred Thoughts of ‘Great Violence’

"You feel like you can achieve great violence very easily. You feel very defended, as well, and protected by it. And so, consequently, you get very aggressive once you're inside of the suit."

They should have used an American actor.

Chasen C.   July 22nd, 2008 - 2:46 pm

There is no plausible connection to Christian Bale’s arrest and this audio clip.
He is commenting on the filmed portrayal of his fictitious character, NOT any long-term effects that wearing said suit has had on his psyche. Seriously, he was asked if the suit was an improvement over old suits and he divulged the emotions that the new suit evokes.
Unless he was wearing his glorified film prop on the night of this “incident” (which I sincerely doubt he was), this whole connection is utter rubbish that the media has dug up in an attempt to uncover facetious information about this developing story.

Shame on Breitbart and Drudge Report for linking this tiny bit of an interesting interview with the intention of condemning Bale’s alleged result as related to the new film.

Disclaimer: I am not saying Bale did anything, nor am I saying that any actions he did commit are right, I’m just commenting on the current portrayal of the situation and the extreme stretches that appear to have been fabricated here.

Not surprising. Actors do have problems with separating reality from fiction. They prove that every time they open their mouth in public. Small wonder that in early times they were not allowed to stay the night in the town limits.

Is it any wonder that during Roman rule, actors were viewed as having nothing to offer to society other than acting? The Romans thought little of ‘the craft’ and those who made their living from it. So do I.

Apparently Drudge and Breitbart missed the memo. The charges against Bale are for verbal abuse, not physical violence.

I listened to this interview yesterday on the way to see the movie and this interpretation is rediculous. He was obvioulsy talking about a character and not what is implied by this headline.

Ironically, the Batman movie addressed how the press villifies people who are seen as forces of good, or someone to look up to. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, watch for the scenes discussing Harvey Dent and the abuse he will receive from the press if he makes even one slight mistake. Then think back to this article and what Drudge/Breitbart are doing.

Send Batman to guard the border!

This was a great interview and this little bit of it has been misconstrued by the media ONCE AGAIN. People always say in movie interviews “Putting on the costume made me get in character” or “Once I had the costume on I felt like the character.” They way the headline was put on Drudge made it seem as if he was wearing the suit WHILE he “assaulted” them.

Anthony   July 22nd, 2008 - 3:29 pm

apparently (according to the official police report), when the argument took place christian yelled at his mum and sis “stop being mean to me or i will go put on my suit!” she would not relent. he went to his old room to change (it took extra time because he had no one to help him). he came back to the living room and made his interrogation of the joker seem pathetic in comparison. (and he still had the time to go save his wife, who was tied up in a warehouse full of oil barrels with a detonation device attached and they made the premiere ahead of schedule!)

Bale is bad-ass!

The UKs highest achievement in the 21st C.- by far.

American Psycho, once a day, helps put things in perspective.

Can’t help but wonder how good the box office receipts would have been if he had been arrested prior to the movie opening.

Rick   July 22nd, 2008 - 4:14 pm

Be aware that ‘assult’ in England can be anything as little as a photograph… a photograph.

But anyway, who uses phrases such as ‘great violence’?

It made me lol.

Gregory Scott   July 22nd, 2008 - 5:48 pm

Rick’s right: They call anything ‘assault’ in England, and, as long as you’re not stabbing someone with a knife, you’re going to get arrested and in big, big trouble.

He probably got angry at his mother and called her a “Æ’ag”. Then the police popped him on the head, cuffed him, and took him down to The Ministry of Love for some re-education.

If the suit made Bale feel aggressive then perhaps he should plaster hot red lipstick all over his face.

When I put on my George Foreman underwear, I feel like punching people.

Bale’s arrest was for verbal assault. Man i could have my entire extended family locked up for yelling. Strange laws they have in the old country.

Glad Bale wasn’t physically assaulting his Mom because he is the best actor on the Planet.
