10% sounds fair to me. The contracter is probably just pissed at himself that he just didn’t take the money. This court case is going to end up like the one with the Barry Bonds ball a few years ago. Both sides are going to end up losing money because of lawyer fees.

Typical contractor. The SOB deserves nothing. If the homeowner offered him anything at all he should be grateful.

The homeowner is an idiot, not quick enough on her feet. It should have gone like this:
Contractor: You won’t believe what I found in your walls, $180,000!
Owner: Stands silent for a minute to think it out and then responds- “Damn, so that’s where my dad hid his money after my parents divorce, unbelievable!
Hey, that solves a fifty year mystery. Here take a stack, you are the man!!!
End of story. Now some fu*king attorney is going to score some of this loot!

The contractor is a dirtbag. She should help plaster his name all over the world and make sure he never works again.

Why all the fuss? the IRS and the lawyers will get all the money, the contractor and home owner
should have worked it out, although the contractor is not entitled to a dime 10% is fair.
The outcome will be interesting

Contractors and lawyers are scum sucking parasites who feed of others misery.

So if the contractor opens the wall and finds his cousin, stachybotrys- a black mold, does he own that too? Then, does he pay out of his own pocket(perhaps since he views your pocket as his) for the eradication and rehab needed that was unseen prior to his hire? Give me a break! Dishonest at his core, he deserves nothing now that he’s turned down the 10% and pulled lawyers into this mess of his own invention. Addled, undeserving, greeeeeeedy, with a sense of entitlement far beyond reason embodying the worst stereotype of a contractor.

These are no ordinary bills. If they date from the 30’s they are likely to be “Silver Certificates” which are backed by silver at the treasury. That makes them collectors items and worth a lot more than face value.

Check your pocket. If you have any bills that read “Silver Certificate” at the top–hang onto them–they are valuable. Most bills now are just worthless IOU’s issued by the Federal Reserve Bank and have “Fereral Reserve Note” at the top.
