While anyone voting to increase taxes on a $32,000/year income seems CRAZY, it is also hard to believe that McCain will manage to NOT RAISE TAXES, given the way the Feds are blowing our country’s resources right and left, espec. on the War.

Obviously, taxes SHOULD be RAISED on the RICH; the trick is defining who is RICH. Someone making $32,000 year is NOT rich. Maybe they should make the new POVERTY LEVEL $32,000/year; and define RICH as anybody who makes over $100,000/year. TAX the RICH and give the POOR a break.

The poor do not pay taxes in America. 99% of all personal income taxes receeived comes from the rich. $100,000 income in America should be considered middle class.

The 100,000 mark was hit by Bill Clinton. Why whould you lower the “rich” level when incomes in general go up?

But dont worry, the alternative minimum tax will hit us all next year.

Anyway, all taxes from the rich do not make their way to teh poor and have never alleviated the poors plight.

Lowering taxes spurs the economy and creates more tax revenue.

A family with two college eduacted spouses will easily pull in more that 100k.

Obama clearly demonstrated his economic incompetence when answering a primary debate question from ABC’s Charles Gibson in April. Obama clearly does not grasp that lowering capital gains taxes increases business investment, business growth, job growth and total tax revenue. And Obama clearly does not grasp that millions and millions of people–who are not “wealthy”–own stocks and stock funds. Obama would rather raise taxes to fulfill his own vision of “fairness”—the economy be damned.

Here is where Gibson nailed His Holiness:

And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. Maybe evil genius is too generous if he/they can’t come up with anything new to 1)slam the opposing candidate, 2)smother any reasonable response with more and increasingly vitriolic terms and labels (”Un-American, Un-Patritic, letc., etc.), and further distract the American electorate from focusing on the Acchille’s Heal of the far Right – issues (such as the price of EVERYTHING not the least of which is oil).

Reagan lowered taxes, and total federal revenue during his presidency DOUBLED–because the economy GREW significantly. However, defense sending grew to beat the Soviets, and social welfare spending and entitlement spending EXPLODED–therefore increasing the deficit. Moral of the story: “It’s the Spending, Stupid.”

Also, since the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 (until the recent slowdown) federal revenue has increased greatly. And most of that Surge has been from Capital Gains and Corporate tax receipts.

furthermore – the rest of your post is exactly true. take away money from those with money and they will horde their money. therefore, they will create less new businesses and reduce the number of employees they have at the businesses they already own and operate. additionally, since the corporate tax rate in america is the 2nd highest in the world, less business will mean less tax revenue for the government to fund welfare, social security, and medicare (all liberal programs) – all of which should take a back seat to what our government is really supposed to be doing, which is improving and maintaining national security.

Will Steve Forbes share with us how his personal income has fared under the tax cuts which greatly benifitted Steve and his club? Take a peek at how Wall Street did today. Look at Wachovia stock for the last year. Keep in mind Wachovia is the 4th largest bank in America. What percentage of Americans do you really think Steve Forbes fits in? I have never understood why someone who happens to become successful through their own hard work, sacrifice, time, sweat, blood,tears and time should be forced to fork over most of the fruits of their honest labor to government.

The entire system has never been fair. The people who create the jobs, the well-to-do ones, are the only people who have the initiative, drive, vision and guts to take the risks to be successful and bring other folks along with them.

Government is incapable of producing anything for the marketplace. By strict definition, government workers are paracites as they live off the production and effort of others without their express consent.

Given the fact that the federal government has rung up unfunded liabilities in excess of $ 70 trillion, I think we’ve about had enough of these big-mouthed, money-wasting jerks who enjoy handing out perks paid for by average Americans.

Capital gains….Wow, that term’s a joke. With the Fed inflating the supply of money and credit by at least 15% per year, people who are responsible for their own lives are penalized by the system in that the interest from their pittiful savings accounts are taxed before they have the chance to recover the losses from inflation! Incrediable.

You have to take substantial risks just to maintain purchasing power in our economy and I fear it will get far worse.

Just consider that an average to upper average income earner loses about 50% to taxes in one form or another in payroll, sales, FICA and other taxes. When that person has worked his body to the bone and he goes forward to meet his maker, our employees (govt) demand that his estate fork over 50% of what remains.

Let’s see… It seems that a man or woman who is a working American loses 3 out of every 4 dollars they earn during the course of their lifetime to taxes for their family. I don’t know about you, but that sure doesn’t sound fair to me.

Remember, Rome fell due to corruption and overtaxation. Apparently, Mr. Obama does not learn lessons from history. Amazing!

Cognitive dissident suppose you are right. BHO wants to raise taxes on the richest 4%. It would still devastate the economy. I’m glad Forbes points this out, you DON”T raise taxes during a recession and you sure as hell don’t propose trillions in new programs. Raising taxes in the short term gains new funds for treasury and in the long term stunts economic growth and lowers funds to the treasury.

BHO also wants to do a Clinton style hatchet job on the military. Only way to insure a war is to not be ready to fight one.

The economy performed great under the Clintons, and americans by and large were much better off than under Bush.

Contrary to Steve Forbes’ fear mongering, I think the #1 proof that the economy will flounder under McCain and his Republican buddies is because the economy is floundering right now under Bush and the same Republican buddies.

So you think the Clinton economy started the day he took office? Wrong, Clinton rode the Reagan/Bush economy his first 4 years in office. Only thing Clinton did was screw up the economy. Only true cuts in his budget were when he gutted military spending. His retroactive tax increases were a killer to the economy. Testament to the Reagan years that 12 years of Bush/Clinton stupidity wasn’t fatal.

Cut unnecessary bureaus, departments, and social programs. Make do with less. The Federal government isn’t supposed to be taking money from its citizens and then spending it frivolously on every pork barrel project, or State-level expenditure.

Funny how many of them drove up in new SUV’s for the FEMA money during the Milwaukee floods. Oh like they had flood damage in their basements… yeah right!!

Obama with a Democratic Congress will raise taxes on everyone except the very poor. Take the government stimulus check. It phased out at $75,000; not $250,000!

Also, lowering energy costs would help the poor and middle class more than a tax cut! But, the Democrats refuse to open domestic supplies.

The country needs someone like Ron Paul to cut government spending. The U.S. should quit being the world’s police force and should eliminate wasteful programs like Job Corps. I would either turn Job Corps funding to college grants or provide tax exemptions for college textbooks.

The only tax raise I would support would be to raise the dividend and capital gains rates back to 20%. The system is currently unfair to have rich investors paying half the taxes of earned income.

Obama wants to turn the U.S. into Europe. Does the U.S. really want high taxes, lots of beuracracy, high fuel costs, and high unemployment (especially for younger people)?
