Dobson is absolutely right about this. Obamanable espouses the belief of the philosopher John Rawls–that people of faith should be excluded from what is considered “rational” in public debate.

Dyanne EarleyJune 24th, 2008 - 10:39 am
The fact that Dobson (for me, the word “fruitcake” is an appropriate word for him) is worried about Obama’s comments about Biblical passages, convinces me that he’s definitely my candidate! When will these people realize the separation of church and state is essential to keep this country from being as extreme as all those Middle Eastern countries who are letting their religious beliefs run and ruin their countries. Will we never learn?
dearley
WoodyJune 24th, 2008 - 11:00 am
Dyanne Earley, what does this have to do with separation of church and state? Are you implying that Dobson doesn’t have the right to express his religious views in public? That philosophy is something the founding fathers never intended. Of course, you’re probably not the biggest fan of the founders anyway, are you?
JCJune 24th, 2008 - 11:04 am
This is exactly why we need the Supreme Court to once and for all settle the issue; Separation of Church and State is a Myth! We need true Christians like brother Dobson spreading the word that only through Christ’s salvation is there hope for mankind. We need government to bring people to Christ and out of cults and false religions like Mormonism, Islam, Catholicism, and other abominations. Hallelujah!!!
JCJune 24th, 2008 - 11:08 am
God’s truths are eternal and unchanging unlike the relativistic, situational morality of today. This is why Christ superceded the Old Testamant.
Mr DJune 24th, 2008 - 11:23 am
Dobson is a moron and so is anyone else who believes in the “word of god”. When will you people wake up from your insanity?
MichaelJune 24th, 2008 - 12:09 pm
To Mr. D
Sir your statement is so arrogant it calls in to question your personal character and education. I pity your ad hominem attacks against people of faith and deplore your pathetic comments. You are neither rational nor sane yourself. It is because of this that you need the word of God to humble your heart and stifle your pride.
I have always found it interesting that the very people who want “under God” removed from our Pledge of Allegience, want every verstiage of Christianity removed from public life and public education, use the pulpit and the Bible for purley political purposes when it is in their interest.
Barrack Obama is a new blanket thrown over the same old horse. Same old contents, merely repackaged. American marketing at its best.
KJune 24th, 2008 - 1:19 pm
What book of the bible allows partial birth abortions? I can’t seem to find it.
CraigJune 24th, 2008 - 2:02 pm
To JC,
Can you not see how much of a blinded fool you are? To paraphrase your nonsense you wrote “Gods truths are eternal and unchanging; that’s why he changed the rules when introducing the new testament”. If God truths are eternal then slavery is still as good as it once was and eating shellfish is still an abomination. That’s the problem when people take myths as being true, they end up with one heck of a confusing unreliable mess. Religion will eventually die off of course as evolution weeds out the wingnuts but the process is painfully slow.
dr kevinJune 24th, 2008 - 2:32 pm
Obama is right on!!!!
Its about time someone stood up to the mindless religous wrong, commonly known as rebulicans, the worlds only class of voters who actually bought into dumbyas BS, but what can you say about them, they trade diplomas for bibles.
God is a myth you stupid peoples, are your burning our chemistry and biology books yet?
Jesus, like mohammed are the fakes here along with McCain and the religous wrong.
Barrack in 08, down with religoins, bring on science!!!!!!!
JCJune 24th, 2008 - 2:35 pm
God’s truths are truly eternal and unchanging, except when He changes them. Sinful man changes his morality over time, which is evil and will result in eternal damnation.
president mullatoJune 24th, 2008 - 2:45 pm
Funny how all the god haters support Obama. I guess they know Obama’s religion is a sham. Well heck, everyone knows it, it’s just the liberals won’t admit it.
Dr PrestonJune 24th, 2008 - 3:22 pm
One thing is sure, James Dobson knows more about the constitution than Obama will ever know. Obama may have graduated from Harvard Law School and taught Constitutional Law at University of Chicago for 10 years but he didn’t know what he was talking about, he was just spouting BS like all the Liberal so-called professors.
Plus, he was just there so they could meet their quotas. He probably never even read the Constitution. Well I did!! There isn’t one word about separation of Church and State in it. People who say there should be separation of Church and state must think we are morons. There isn’t one word about allowing abortions or gay marriage, anyone who say’s different is a fruitcake like Obama. James Dobson is a Dr. Obama is a nothing, just an elitest.
RoverJune 24th, 2008 - 3:30 pm
Such haters of a brillant and great man.
His golden words speak to a group of which I am
His promise of change and hope for a weary country
Brings a smile with relief to the battered masses
May this country engulf your words of life and freedom
Your ideas will eventually sweep away the haters like a rake to a pile of leaves
While freedom, hope, and happiness rain down upon on us
For Obama you are truly a Super Star
Obama 08
May the grey clouds of confusion clear
and the light of truth shine in
CraigJune 24th, 2008 - 4:28 pm
To JC,
Wow, reading your crap makes me appreciate my decision to drop all the religious myth including Jesus Christ out of my belief system many years ago. Hard to believe I sounded just like you a few years back; a bit embarrassing that I could have been so deceived!
You write ‘Gods truths are unchanging except when he changes them’. What kind of claptrap is that? There’s a really good book available that you should read called Biblical Errancy. It documents the over 2000 errors, lies and inconsistencies found in the Bible. The Bible is arguably the most violent and disturbing piece of literature available; I firmly beleive that parents who subject their children to it should be charged with felony child abuse and jailed. It’s kind of hard to fault them when they murder their own children because God tells them to do it after you’ve brainwashed them with similar stories such as God instructing Abraham to kill Isaac. Likewise if God tells them to head down to the local restaurant and chop off the penises of all the male customers, well, they’re only being obedient to the vicious malevolent spook in the sky that you’ve been placing in their heads all of their lives.

Daynne Earley wrote: ” When will these people realize the separation of church and state is essential to keep this country from being as extreme as all those Middle Eastern countries”
First of all “these people”. Presumably you are speaking about people with a beliefe in Trinity. “These people” kind of like “coloreds” or “kikes”, aren’t you the smart one.
So then it is also your stance that people who believe in the Trinity not be able to vote. You mean like, blacks and women some years ago?
You say it is essential to keep “these people” out of politics in order to keep our country from turning into a country like the countries in the Middle East. Tell me Daynne… a single Middle eastern country where (as you insinuate) the religious Muslims are in charge that the civilians get to vote. Just one. One.

Oh, these secularists. The way they express themselves is so funny to me. They pretend as if they have better answers than their enemies, the Christians.
Secularists, Atheists, etc.— how do you feel about your candidate quoting the Bible as a way of insinuating himself among your hated enemies? Or is he one of your enemies, too? No, of course not— he is a secularist like you. So why should people who do believe in their religion, and do practice it, who read the Bible and spend time with it— why do you think that they should be open to a secularist reinterpreting everything to suit his agenda? How are they wrong for being offended? Are they wrong because they are Christian? Of course you think so— you want them to “wake up”, to come out of their obvious, obvious, painfully obvious “blindness” and see the simple truths that you all see. But, if that is the case, you have to question your Leader, Obama. He is either a liar or one of your Christian enemies. And as you all know, you can’t trust someone crazy enough to believe in a religion. Unless that religion is the religion of the material world.
If you are going to act so clever and take the side of reason, then please employ a little reason sometimes. I tire of these utterly irrational arguments. They are always based in emotion, and you people are fooled into thinking otherwise.

Why is it that Jesus plainly warns people to “Judge not, lest ye be judged” in Matthew 7, but these glorified, so-called “men of God,” like James Dobson, John Hagee, Jeremiah Wright, and so many others like them take it upon themselves to push God aside and take over His job of judging others simply for political gain?
Why is it that Jesus teaches us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, yet these “men of God” spew such hatred and intolerance from their pulpits?
And, why is it that God commands us, “Thou shalt not kill,” and “Thou shalt not bear false witness,” but so many people who claim to be “pro-life” and who claim to be “Christians” and “Jews,” strongly support Bush’s attack and slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women, and children, and press on to do the same thing in Iran?
It sounds like some tax-free “churches” owe the government some back taxes.
And, as for Mr. Dobson, Mr. Hagee, Mr. Wright, their followers, and many others like them, I will continue to pray that God may have mercy on your souls.
Truth in PunditryJune 24th, 2008 - 7:50 pm
Before anyone becomes desperate and afraid that Obama is going to ruin this country, based solely on the interpretation of Dr. Dobson, I think we should all actually watch the entire speech in question.
Dr. Dobson is known for interpreting messages in a way that will lead his audience to believe in his usually well argued rhetorical stances. For the most part, I follow Dobson’s advice. He’s good on the intimacy in marriage, and role of fathers. He’s encouraging too. On Obama, he’s way out of bounds.
It’s desperate times when the Republican party depends on Dobson to attack a candidates integrity. It’s doubly desperate times when the Pro-life party is no longer pro-life. I’m pretty sure that when Jesus said love your enemy and turn the other cheek that he didn’t mean to bomb them and allow a few wackos to wreak fear in the hearts of our nation for decades and decades. If you’re supporting this war, you’ve got some soul searching to do. I had to do this when I returned from combat. I found hope in the name Jesus Christ.
As a soldier who served 11 months in Iraq (2003) and 12 months in Afghanistan (2005) I can tell you that we are in over our heads on this one. Our Army is taxed to the breaking point, exhausted. Suicide rates among the enlisted are at an all time high, as are homelessness among our veterans. I have two men who served beside me for nearly a year who I cannot locate, because they are homeless. Their ages:23 and 26. Their wives left them, and their nation has abandoned them, denied them veterans benefits (because they were deployed one week less than required to be classified as veterans; a sneaky trick, because they were excited to return home early, our whole unit was).
I’d like to trust McCain; he was my choice in 2000, but I don’t feel he’s the man for the job. Our nation needs healing and hope. McCain has offered neither.
Listen to Dobson for advice on being a man or woman. Don’t listen to him when he tells you what to do with your great democratic right, the right to vote. I’ll vote republican again once they’ve mended the damage they’ve done to our nation and the lives of our soldiers.
I pray everyday, and still struggle with nightmares, panic when I hear sirens. It’s horrible. I support Pro-life measures. I believe pro-life means all life, not just life in the womb. You can’t support the death penalty and war and call yourself pro-life. If you think you can do this without becoming a hypocrite, answer me this. If we execute a man because he has murdered two other men, might it have been better if that man were aborted before he grew to a man with blood on his hands? The death penalty is retro-active abortion. By killing someone before God has allotted him to die naturally, we remove the chance for God to work miracles in that man’s soul. Remember, we are all sinners. The stones we cast upon our members, even the murderers, will be remembered by our Lord. The faith Jesus taught has room at the table for everyone. Everyone.
CraigJune 24th, 2008 - 8:41 pm
Chris said these things. They are ERROR!
Why is it that Jesus plainly warns people to “Judge not, lest ye be judged†in Matthew 7
Why is it that Jesus teaches us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, yet these “men of God†spew such hatred and intolerance from their pulpits?
And, why is it that God commands us, “Thou shalt not kill,†and “Thou shalt not bear false witness,â€
Chris, don’t twist Scripture for your benefit. What does the rest of His statement in Matthew?
It says to make RIGHT JUDGEMENT, Judge by God’s Word, the Word is the STANDARD by which YOU will be judged.
Judgement is COMMANDED.
Here,
1Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
By what standard do you call these men, “men of God”? Because they say so?
The majority of men who call themselves ‘Christian’ are LOST! That is also what you missed in Matthew 7!
Jesus Christ separated Church and state here.
Luke 20:25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s
The ‘things’ of America are NOT the things of God.
Dobson doesn’t know that!
Why don’t you?
In the service of the TRUTH, the LIVING WORD, JESUS CHRIST,
Craig

Life is funny. We lose Tim Russert and George Carlin within days of each other. Yet morons like James Dobson get to live long lives to spew their idiocies. Go figure.
American is in such a sad state; people are stuck between a psychotic-atheist left and an equally psychotic-”Christian” right. Whatever happened to the center?

If Focus on the Family wants a “fruitcake interpretation”, they are going to have to get Ted Haggard back :D
Although Ted Haggard’s De-Gayification Program was supposed to be successful and Haggard now says he is “completely heterosexual”. But he lied out his teeth when the scandal first broke too…
But Dobson’s followers will blindly do what ever he says so there is no reason to cry about that. If Dobson tells them to vote for Barr, they will :D

Dear Craig:
“There’s a really good book available that you should read called Biblical Errancy. It documents the over 2000 errors, lies and inconsistencies found in the Bible.”
No book has been more attacked or more distributed than the Bible. It has been around for two-thousand years and has been being criticized, but who’s still around?
As I’m not going to waste the money on even purchasing the book you mentioned, name one lie or inconsistency found.
“God tells them to do it after you’ve brainwashed them with similar stories such as God instructing Abraham to kill Isaac.”
You want to read the rest of that story, cause he didn’t.
Dobson is absolutely right about this. Obamanable espouses the belief of the philosopher John Rawls–that people of faith should be excluded from what is considered “rational” in public debate.
