Slimy photo opp! Most dems believe he stopped the flood with that one sand bag that it took him 30 minutes to fill. He’s a hero he knows which end of the shovel to dig with. Thank goodness for his handlers at first he just held out the bag and expected the media to fill it for him.
WoodyJune 15th, 2008 - 11:37 am
That’s probably the first time Obamanable has picked up a shovel.
GoraJune 15th, 2008 - 11:46 am
See, global warming is real! Stop the debate and raise taxes to solve this problem! We need wind farms. We need a mandatory vegetarian diet. We need to ban all fossil fuel vehicles. We must reduce the size of our economy. We must mandate smaller housing. We must mandate the reduction of carbon.
Obama ‘08
NamasteJune 15th, 2008 - 11:47 am
So when will the previous criticizing writers get off your duffs and go offer to fill a few sandbags?
What do you guys do? Sit around all day waiting for an opportunity to bash Obama. At least he is showing up and has signed on for one of the hardest jobs in the world. What have any of you done for anyone else?
NamasteJune 15th, 2008 - 11:48 am
Thanks Gora for laying it on the table – perhaps the weather and all the other hell breaking loose will encourage folks to understand that we are in crisis. Your words are helpful!!

Erkel shovels sand. Where is Al? What a poser!
red state republicanJune 15th, 2008 - 12:23 pm
I rather drink beer, then fill sandbags.
ifJune 15th, 2008 - 12:31 pm
How much CARBON did oblama and his team of disciples use to show up for this 30 min photo opp? Dems are drinkin the kool-aid believing this clowns about change. Just a power hungry marxist that will weaken America. All the America haters move to france and take your wicked ideas with you! And to that self righteous anus that thinks that the previous posters sit on their butts and do nothing Kiss my a** Good Americans help out one another all the time not just for photo opp’s Thats why we are angry at fools like you who live for a hand-outs from the Government. What a freakin hypocrite! I’m sure you have never helped any one but your self and your same sex lover.

Obama/08?, JUST SAY NO.
RoverJune 15th, 2008 - 2:15 pm
It’s a bit of a contrived photo of for sure. Simply to point out that McCain is nowhere to be seen. And if he does show up, he is too old, crippled up, and feeble to operate a shovel. The sun would probably give his old white carcass quadruple cancer anyway.
Perhaps the cons can get the presumptive republican vice presidential candidate Condi Rice out there with a shovel. I am sure they could get Hillary with a shovel but Barack would have to watch that she does not whack him with it :D
Bush could do it! Despite being a moron, Bush is in pretty good physical shape. So could Cheney if he took it far more easy. Besides FDR, McCain is probably the most physically frail candidate we have seen in quite some time…

First of all, that was OBAMA who asked, “How long you guys been out here?” If you cannot even get that simple point straight, why would anyone care about your opinion on anything?
Second, to all those complaining that this was a photo-op for Obama, WHERE was McCain and Bush and Cheney, etc.? At least Obama had the wits and wherewithal to GO THERE and view the damage and lift a hand, however meager and slow, to help.
More than most others did.
PS WHERE WAS HILLARY??? LOL!! Answer:
Probably out looking for a grassy knoll!!
:-)
H8RJune 15th, 2008 - 2:28 pm
Well I thought I would use some lefty “logic” today for some giggles. Since the left adores Sharon Stone I wanted to extend her karma statement to the Chinese earthquake into Iowa. Hey, wasn’t it Iowa that started this whole Obama cult love crap? Maybe somebody in “HIGH” places didn’t like what Iowa did, I’m just sayin’ what your Sharon said lefties.
Karma?June 15th, 2008 - 2:36 pm
H8R speculated that Obama-karma was somehow related to the Iowa catastrophe. More likely it is the outcome of MEN mucking around with Mother Nature in countless ways, including messing with how the Mississippi flows, and–surprise!–sending all our manufacturing jobs overseas to China and India! Guess it will be a strain for your brain to see the CONNECTIONS between all that worldwide POLLUTION being generated by those newly industrialized-backwards-countries like China and India and the lousy weather patterns we are now suffering in this country!
Maybe you should go educate yourselves before you leap to silly logic like Obama’s campaign had anything to do with Iowa’s troubles! KARMA and NATURAL SIDE-EFFECTS had everything to do with it, but not in the way you imagine!

Why did the Messiah fill a few sand bags when he could of waved his all-mighty hand and ala the Red Sea, made the waters stand back?
SlowDown&SpellRightJune 15th, 2008 - 3:24 pm
Why not slow down and spell properly in these posts, instead of posting such goofy, slaphappy stuff?
“enought pictures” = enough pictures
“photo of” = photo op
“could of” ? = could have
and so on…
The lack of literacy skills all over the Internet is disheartening.

Where is Bush during all this I wonder? Surely not wasting time at fancy, meaningless dinners overseas.

Hey, I’m the one you called niwit, and I want to say I’m truly sorry that my speakers are not up to snuff and I didn’t recognize your messiahs voice. For that I apologize. But what it really comes down to, is b.o. was there for nothing more than a cheap photo op and try to make believes like you think that he’s just a regular guy.
Keep believing dumbass.

If Stymie (http://www.chopperfreak.com/stymie.jpg) showed up and busted his @$$ in the sun for 8 hours WITHOUT news cameras and reporters, THEN it “might be credited to him as righteousness”.
This way: it’s just a photo-opportunity and an obvious exploitation of their situation.
(P.S. – copy the JPEG and pass it around, we’re trying to start something! Photoshopping is welcome!) :)

Nice to see that Obama has found something he’s qualified for.
lou dobbs fanJune 15th, 2008 - 6:22 pm
Would be nice to see Bush giving Iowa a hand. At least that way he can at least pretend to care more about the American citizens then Iraqi citizens.
dswilliJune 15th, 2008 - 6:27 pm
Uhhh Gora where did you make the quantum leap in reason that this flooding was somehow caused by global warming? I should not have to tell a grown man (or woman) this but flooding is not a new phenomena. In the 60’s and 70’s there was massive flooding in the Mississippi delta every 5 years or so. If you’re so hell bent on fixing this alleged problem then YOU downsize your economy. Get a job that you can ride your bike to. Get a smaller house or apartment. Give up your air conditioning lemmings like Namaste will follow your lead. Give up YOUR internet connection. Stop whining for government to do your dirty work for you. You want a global catastrophe? Try implementing your childish plan.

1. It is not your SPEAKERS, it is your EARS’ inability to HEAR CLEARLY that is the problem.
2. There is very little to believe in these days, especially people who arrogantly CLAIM things were said when they weren’t and then call somebody “dumbass” when they are faulted for it.
3. Sure, this is a nice photo op for Obama; but it won’t convince anyone of anything who hasn’t pretty much made up their mind already. The important thing is: OBAMA was there, and the others were NOT THERE. It means a lot to people in a catastrophe when SOMEBODY OF HIGH PROFILE SHOWS UP to show some concern. Even if only for half an hour. It’s more than HILLARY or McCAIN or the BUSH-Admin. has done, isn’t it.
4. Obama looks/sounds a bit LAME in this news story, but again, AT LEAST HE WAS THERE.
Period.
dswilliJune 15th, 2008 - 6:34 pm
Ahhhh Lou Dobbs fan with another sober (sarcasm) proposal. I’m sure the President has nothing better to do than fly AF1 into a flood devastated region. Yes indeed the 10 or 12 thousand gallons of jet fuel he would burn would be a small price to pay to fill a few bags with sand. I guess in old Lou’s world symbolism trumps substance. Fact is Lou if he went you’d b*tch about it for the above reasons. You’re pretty much a miserable human being and Obama winning or losing won’t change that.
dmJune 15th, 2008 - 7:04 pm
Maybe Maybenot
AT LEAST HE WAS THERE.
Doin what? Having his picture taken.
If that makes you feel better that “AT LEAST HE WAS THERE”, well great. But what difference did that make? Is it a “I feel your pain thing”?
Is the water gone?
If Bush would have done the same thing don’t you believe we would be hearing the same thing. You know photo op? If McCain would have been there, would you maybe have heard old white guy, can’t even lift a shovel etc.
Having any politican show up for pictures don’t mean s___.
What matters is Illinois recovery, and they will recover. Everyone has seen news coverage of the flooding and knows how bad things are. But b.o. filling a sandbad is nothing but a cheap photo op.
red cross volunteerJune 15th, 2008 - 7:19 pm
Showing up and rolling up your sleeves means a lot to an American family. No matter if it is the President, or a red cross volunteer.
Dave's worldJune 15th, 2008 - 7:28 pm
Perhaps Red Cross Volunteer. But it’s foolishness to have a heart surgeon, corporate CEO or a president filling sand bags. A heart surgeon could be saving lives, a CEO could be moving assets to help and a president should be running the free world. It’s all about being where you can do the most good. I seriously doubt a presidential candidate getting in the way is helpful to the people of Iowa. In a nutshell do you want to save lives or do you want a photo op?
dswilliJune 15th, 2008 - 7:33 pm
Right Lou Dobbs fan sure thing, and you would be the first one to slam Bush if he did show up.

ColdTimeJune 15th, 2008 - 9:28 pm
Global warming? This is very funny. Actually, storms in the midwest in the month of June are caused by cold fronts moving south from Canada. The issue is Canada is too cold this time of year. This has nothing to do with global warming. Has our education system in the US fallen this far? wow
LarseJune 16th, 2008 - 1:46 am
Bush won’t show up. He has some big messes over in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran to worry about long before he worries about Ceder Rapids, IA… Condi POed Israel too… Better send Cheney to SA for the upteenth time to beg for lower oil prices too…
Bush is looking for Bin Laden again though… Latest report is “We have no clue where he is”… But it looks good for Bush’s personal vanity after f****** the search for our nation’s #1 criminal up for 6 years.
Afghanistan is threatening to invade Pakistan. So maybe Pakistan will just nuke that whole country and solve everyone’s problem.
Iraq is have major problems again…
This is all just what happens when you elect those ignorant fools to lead things. You get the leader you deserve…
What would McCain do…
PolutionEverywhereJune 16th, 2008 - 4:36 pm
Someone said: “i save my criticism of Bush for selling America out to the Mexicans.”
Speaking of selling out, what corporate America has done by moving all our manufacturing offshore to China and India has not only decimated our own economy/workforce, but has caused a helluva lot of side-effects in weather phenomena (due to pollution and tons of particulates in air that never were there before). These weather phenomena affect the entire globe.
Notice the weird weather lately? One area has severe drought, another has severe floods. Maybe global warming has something to do with it, but certainly all the new pollution everywhere, drifting from China and India, cannot be helping.
America will rue the day when our greed & laziness came up with the idea to OUT-SOURCE all these jobs to countries with cheap labor and no environmental policies. Not only is it polluting the entire planet, but it has fueled an appetite for the American-consumerism lifestyle in those countries, so now THEY want all the lovely cr*p we enjoy–with all the consequent damage to the planet and economy (think: oil prices, food scarcity, etc. etc.).
Chickens are indeed coming home to roost, it seems.
