There is no justification for such behavior.

That said, it is also not national news. I mean, really… This sort of thing has been going on among teenage boys since Cain & Abel. I remember many such jerks growing up in the 1950’s. We dealt with them on the spot, and then went home to nurse the minor wounds… and think about how stupid the whole thing was.

The kid who got punched should have immediately retaliated by kicking that little bastard’s ass right then and there. Problem solved.

I can’t help but doubt that incident evolved “out of the blue” with absolutely no prior provocation. I know kids. I coached them. I know these things don’t just happen. Taunting the other team is part of the mental game teams play. Some can handle it…some can’t. It is a ’school of hard knocks’ learning experience.

I suppose such experiences could be better avoided if one would choose ballet over baseball for their little boys.

Stop the white on white violence!

joe bowsky   May 28th, 2008 - 9:49 am

bad decision by the young man.bad sportsmanship, why is the police investagating?
cant they handle it themselves, comeon already ,enough with the police state..

Dave   May 28th, 2008 - 10:47 am

Don,this was a hispanic kid who threw the punch, another example of our wonderful multicultural madness.

Bobo   May 28th, 2008 - 10:56 am

Seems to me the parents of the attacker should be VERY worried about reprisals.

peter c   May 28th, 2008 - 10:59 am

Why are the police investigating? because this is a crime…that’s why.He could have punched this kid’s nose through his head and kill him. It’s because of idiot liberals like you Joe Bowsky and a Godless society that kids like this punk get away with their crimes. If I had ever done that when I was a kid my Old Man who have given me the belt and then bring me down to the Police station himself.
This kid should be charged and never allowed to play in that league again. It’s not about a Police State it’s about crime and punishment.

credible   May 28th, 2008 - 12:39 pm

kelly, It’s more like lawyer-izing America.

Fisher   May 28th, 2008 - 12:52 pm

Unprovoked. Should be charged for assault. It’s really not all that complicated now, is it??

Justice   May 28th, 2008 - 1:21 pm

What do you expect from parents that raise kids to have no honor? Kick the young criminal out of the league forever.

howard   May 28th, 2008 - 1:35 pm

I want to know what the kid who got hit did to him earlier. Did he spike him while sliding into second? I’ll be the kid who got hit wasn’t a total innocent.

Latrinsha   May 28th, 2008 - 1:56 pm

This was NOT Little League. That is also a trade mark and I demand the reference to Little League be removed from this story

carol   May 28th, 2008 - 2:29 pm

Assult. Arrest and Sue the kid.

Emmerson   May 28th, 2008 - 2:40 pm

Did you hear the father on the video yell, “Did you punch him in his face!?” Yet another backwards piece of trash. Probably drinks beer from a can, has really bad facial hair, drives a truck, and wears muscle shirts. Just the type of person that should be raising a child. Oh, if I were king…

GameGrrl   May 28th, 2008 - 7:43 pm

Well, I live in snohomish county and it is sad but true about some of these parents … I see parents drinking form their beer cans, smoking on a clear pipe and wearing mullet haircuts.. it’s horrible. Not sure why that kid threw a punch, but the other kid should of threw one back!!!

[...] nor do I think we have perfect kids.  But we do hope that our focus will help avoid some of the bad things we see and hear about in other leagues.  I’m sometimes shocked when I see and hear what [...]

I’m glad there was no video and youtube when i was a kid. I’m not sure how old those players are, but they look young and calling the police seems kind of extreme. It’s interesting nobody “knows why” the kid threw the punch.. I bet the kid who was punched knows exactly why, although I’m not saying violence was justified.

Ken S   May 29th, 2008 - 12:37 am

Love the ‘tards on here who “know the one kid did something to deserve it”. The reason you dont have your son who was punched retaliate is because things dont get solved by violence. Unless you are still a Neanderthal. I dont remember a bloody lip needing multiple stiches. But maybe I am the puss here??

Jeff Davis   May 29th, 2008 - 12:53 am

I know the family of the young man who was attacked. Evidently, the kid who attacked had been a part of a tournament team last year that the victims coach ran. He was not asked back after some behavioral problems and thus thought the victim replaced him and was upset.

The sad part is that his parents, his coach and the other parents didn’t think it was a big deal and were basically belligerent toward the victims parents.

I’m sure he didn’t swing back as he was pretty shocked about being attacked after a game when you are shaking hands with your opponent.

One last item to note is that the victims team beat the attackers team 11 – 1 so I’m sure he wasn’t happy about losing.

Nanny J   May 29th, 2008 - 1:37 am

The victim wasn’t cold-cocked. That means knocked out cold. He was sucker-punched.
