Callous Huh   May 22nd, 2008 - 2:13 pm

Guess he should have loved Jesus just a little bit more.

J. Goodson   May 22nd, 2008 - 2:23 pm

Unbelievable tragedy for the family–I will pray for your family.

Are you kidding me?   May 22nd, 2008 - 2:24 pm

You are a terrible person for saying that. This is very tragic and I hope that the family is doing well and coping the best that they can in this time.

Kate   May 22nd, 2008 - 2:29 pm

Callous’s user name shows him (her) for what they are–calloused. Tragedy afflicts believers and non-believers alike. I hope Callous wakes up.
Our prayers go up for the Chapman family.

LettucePrey   May 22nd, 2008 - 3:04 pm

I’m sure the daughter was a sinner and deserved to be run over. She’s certainly burning in hell right now.

matt   May 22nd, 2008 - 3:15 pm

I pray Jesus wipes away every tear and happiness can still be found in this life and the life to come.

toxicboy   May 22nd, 2008 - 3:19 pm

god’s punishment for not brainwashing the kid soon enough. adopted from china, she was probably a godless buddhist.

I pray God gives you little pricks what you so righteously deserve.

And He will……heh heh heh….

“LettucePrey” huh?

heh heh heh

Joe   May 22nd, 2008 - 3:29 pm

Pray for what? It’s God’s will right? I feel sorry for that family as one human to another but I don’t think prayers to the supposable God that being his will let this happen is worth the effort.

Send them a card or flowers or make a donation to a charity in her name. THOSE things would show more sympathy and be MORE productive than prayers.

Paul   May 22nd, 2008 - 3:44 pm

Why is everyone getting upset at these examples of young impotent little Eunuchs? They use a tragedy to get a rise from you. Don’t give them their little acts of on line masturbation. Believe me, face to face they would be terrified to speak to any of us this way – especially if you’re female!

Pray for this family that lost their child. Pray for the son who will blame himself for (I assume) an accident. Turn it to His glory.

WTFWJD?   May 22nd, 2008 - 4:09 pm

Paul,
“turn it to His glory”?? Are you kidding me? How can the death of any child be “His” glory? It’s stupid comments like that make me want to puke on a bible. You simple minded fools will believe anything.

Bill Smith   May 22nd, 2008 - 4:10 pm

God does NOT promise perfection in our world; not after humans allowed sin to enter it. He DOES promise eternal life after the trials, and tragedies of this one. My prayers also to the family, especially to the devastated boy who was driving.

Joe, your non-understanding of your own language is exceeded only by your total non-understanding of Christianity. There is no such word as “supposable,” nor “supposably” which I suspect is how you hear, and pronounce the actual word “supposedly.”

You are right, a donation WOULD be nice, as you say. But you are quite wrong about prayer — as I used to be.

Why all this anger, folks? It’s a strange reaction to a little girl’s death, and a family’s tragedy.

atheist free thinker   May 22nd, 2008 - 4:15 pm

First of all, thumbs down to the insensitive jerks who are mocking this terrible human tragedy. Be that as it may, I think they are trying to make a valid point, however crudely. The point is this: Jerry Falwell & Pat Robertson both said 9/11 and Katrina was god’s retribution for America’s “sins” of secularism, homosexuality etc. etc. If that’s their logic (and it is) then you christians cannot have it both ways. Either your alleged god is punishing us all or he’s being selective. If he is either then he (she, it?) is mean and vengeful and not worthy of our attention. Wake up & see the the truth. Religion is primitive, wishful thinking. Remember what Aristotle said..”To comprehend reality one must not escape into another world”. Don’t you see that that is what your are doing? You are missing out on a lot. Good luck to the parents of the deceased. I wish them nothing but love, whatever their philosophy is.

Sharon L. Shannon   May 22nd, 2008 - 4:42 pm

Anyone who uses a tragedy such as this to leave anything other than condolences proves how truly selfish and cold our culture has become. Little Maria Chapman is, in her death, far more truly alive than many who still breathe.

I sincerely hope that none of the family ventures here.

Priyamvada   May 22nd, 2008 - 4:49 pm

I wonder how Hollywood narcissist and hypocrite pontificator Bill Maher is going to fit his usual snarky bigoted anti-Christian comments into his cowardly little monkey act about this story for laughs? He always has something to say about Christians being weak-minded morons, and it usually isn’t long before he surrounds himself with equally prejudiced guests and then has plenty to say just to get shock value and ratings whenever a tragedy happens to someone whose values he finds threatening, not to mention the resulting whoops of approved derision and wild applause from his audience of dittoheads. Watch for it, it’s a virtual guarantee.

E390   May 22nd, 2008 - 5:54 pm

All of the mental defects posting that this child will go to hell or that the family did not believe enough must be the same people elevating Ted to sainthood. These thoughts are the backbone of the liberal party who are destroying the USA. Please go back to your gay, trans sexual pedophile website and praise each other you make me sick.

EdtheLib   May 22nd, 2008 - 6:10 pm

Priyamvada

Cowardly?

Look in the mirror.

She is in a better place, and thank God away
from sick rednecks like you!

peter c   May 22nd, 2008 - 6:15 pm

These same creeps who are writing such hateful filth are who makes up the Obama cult..Godless losers. Soulless people who want to drag everyone down to their selfish sinful ways…Ummm…sounds like Satan’s would be proud of them as he burns them and leaves them in the dark where they can’t get to the Light for all eternity.
They are the product of a lifetime without prayer of God in schools and indoctrination by the Dems, the ACLU,the Atheists, the Darwinists,Hollywood and the Gay movement. There are why the Islamic murderers call America “The Great Satan.”

Brother R   May 22nd, 2008 - 6:50 pm

I used to be a Christian. I am no longer a Christian. One of the many reasons I am no longer a Christian, is because of all the incidents that happened like this terrible tragedy with the Chapman family. Christians like to comfort themselves with the many Bible verses about every hair on their heads being numbered, and angels watching out for them to protect them, and so forth. But incidents like this show all those promises to be empty words, written by good sincere human beings with hopeful hearts and vivid imaginations. You can be compassionate and kind without subscribing to childlike fairy-tale beliefs. My condolences go to the Chapman family. My prayers, however, do not go to their Bronze Age god.

EdtheLib is syphilitic   May 22nd, 2008 - 7:20 pm

Ever watch Maher in action? He’s every bit the mealy-mouthed jackass, as described.

Walker   May 22nd, 2008 - 9:26 pm

Peter, E390, you are sad, sad people.

“all of the mental defects..” nice, E390, essentially calling people retards. How sensitive and Christian of you.

“sounds like Satan’s would be proud of them as he burns them and leaves them in the dark…” Peter, read a book. Preferably one on grammar and punctuation. But any would do.

A dogmatic frame of mind will only leave you in the company of others who agree with everything you say and nothing of what anyone else says. That means a life without challenges, new ideas, free thought, or true understanding of mankind. How sad for you.

I wish I hadn’t even looked past the story into this comments section. I can’t possibly read some of the garbage on here without responding, but as a couple others already said, the only thing that matters is how horrible a tragedy this is. Think about what “Joe” said… do something productive. Make a donation to one of Chapman’s foundations, or any other adoption/children’s charity in her name. But if you think that condemning “gays, Darwinists, Hollywood, ACLU, Dems (my God, seriously?) trans-sexuals, etc.” is the proper way to honor this girl’s life, you have a lot of thinking to do.

To those who just post callous, anti-Christian comments, start a blog. Write a research paper about the dichotomy of Christian doctrine and the implications of real world/disaster/tragedy manifestations. But don’t be insensitive simply to stir people up just because you have nothing else to do. Be productive.

jbh50   May 22nd, 2008 - 9:49 pm

God never promises a pefected life. In Steve Curtis Chapmans own words, “God is God, I am not. I can only see a part of the picture He is painting. God is God and I am man so I’ll never understand it all for God is God”. The song speaks to the heart when we find it hard to understand why God allows tragedy to strike in life.

My heart breaks for this family. May god’s people surround them and comfort them at this time.

Larry   May 22nd, 2008 - 9:52 pm

“…what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, and say, ‘We played the flute for you and you did not dance, we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.” Matt 11:16,17 My heart does truly mourns with them.
“Why are the nations in an uproar, and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take councel together against the Lord and against His Anounted. Let us tear their fetter apart, and cast away their cords from us! He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Psalms 2: 1-4.

Real American   May 22nd, 2008 - 9:59 pm

Some people here must think that they are not going to DIE, you will. And just think about it, what if the Christians are right. Are you that Sure there is no God? And you KNOW that for a fact? What do you believe in yourself, or the goodness of man? What hope do you have? Oh, you don’t need it and don’t want it.
NIV Psalm 53:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN, MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND MAKE HIS FACE SHINE UPON YOU.

jbh50   May 22nd, 2008 - 10:11 pm

I lost a child 10 years ago. I know the insurmountable grief of standing over my child’s grave and asking God why. God never answered that question for me, but over the years I have come to a place in my life where I can accept that there is something in our lives so much bigger than ourselves. God has a plan that we may not fully understand, but I am convinced that someday I will see my son again.

I pray that the Chapman family can hold on to that promise that one day they will see Maria Sue.

No tears in heaven.

Daniel   May 23rd, 2008 - 12:35 am

Sometimes God allows terrible tragedies to happen to good people. For example, Job was a very righteous man and yet the Lord allowed some terrible things to happen to Job’s family. The nonchristians mocking the Chapman family and Christianity have no understanding of either Christian doctrine or basic human decency. I will be praying that God comforts the Chapman family during this time of terrible tragedy and that he welcomes little Maria into heaven with open arms.

naomi   May 23rd, 2008 - 12:50 pm

I saw the whole Chapman family at a concert in Beijing just one year ago. Little Maria was so cute! And she was so excited when pictures of her with her family came up on the screen for everyone to see. What sad news! I hope her brother is doing ok too.

BeenThereDoneThat   May 23rd, 2008 - 5:19 pm

Don’t dirty your hands chastising these juvenile delinquents that post ill of human tragedy. Instead, give them a broad path so that they may muddy their own waters. It has been said, and it will come to pass that the laws of three shall prevail here as well. So send it demons, send it out far and wide. It shall return to its maker three fold, be it good, or, be it bad. It has been said, you have been warned. Merry Meet!

ThickheadedLettuce   May 23rd, 2008 - 6:12 pm

Maybe this was not an accident! The boy was jealous his dad has too much time loving elsewhere.. music, china, God.. blah blah and purposely ran the girl over.

Susan   May 31st, 2008 - 1:49 am

I feel so bad for the family. I know they are
heartbroken. I know accidents happen but where
was the adults. Why wasn’t someone watching these
children. You never let little ones play in a
driveway, much less without someone watching them.
Children this young don’t know or see danger, they
rely on adults, Dad, Mom, etc. to protect them
from harm. They knew they had little ones, why
whenever anyone left the house they didn’t count
and make sure the girls were safe. I’m not trying
to put the blame on one person but to expect God
to protect is not right, he gave us all brains
and common sense and we are to use them. If children could protect themselves then they wouldn’t parents to do it. This was just a horrible accident and the son misjudged and was in
a hurry to get to where he was going and the parents were busy doing something and not sitting
out side while they played. God had nothing to do
with this it was a human error. So sad it had to happen to such a precious little child like Maria.
These things happen to many times we just don’t
hear about them. You protect your children and always make sure they are safe. They should have had a fenced yard and the girls couldn’t go out side the fence. But still an adult should have
been watching them at this young age fence or no
fence. I pray for them and their son but you have
to face the blame before you can get healed. The son won’t heal if they keep telling him God did this. It was his will. I’m sorry I will never
believe God has anyone die a death so horrific as
this and a child nonetheless. We are human and we
make mistakes, I’m so sorry this young man has to
learn from this mistake. He won’t heal unless
him and his family face the facts and get him help
to overcome this and stop telling him God will
fix it. God will help but they have to help themselves also. I just pray they watch the other
two little darlings so they don’t get hurt.
I hope they learn you have to watch your children
ever so closely. Love the little children and
each other. I know little Maria is in heaven,
but she should be here living a full life of
happiness. I pray God will help this family
but in the way they should be helped. This was
not a part of God’s plan. We need to accept blame
and move on with God’s help. Slow down and think
before we hurt anyone. God Bless Everyone.

Paige Haney   June 6th, 2008 - 1:35 pm

People who think or say things like I guess he had to love Jesus more. Obviosly do not know God. just because one is a believer doesn’t mean bad things don’t happen its what the people do when they get up and walk through such a tragedy.
It’s prabably the most painful thing anyone could be put through. I just hope and pray that the family will one day find peace through the storm and the young man will be able to feel free from all of the guilt. Yes, we all must feel some pain, but God is there to comfort us.
However, nothing nwords could ever express what this powerful beileving family in Christ are going through.

God Bless and may he shine his face upon you all of you throught his storm he will be there.
Respectfully, Paige

Ezekiel33   October 15th, 2009 - 3:28 pm

Wow..there are some really warped people commenting here. Bible makes it clear that Satan is in temporary control of earth (along with other fallen cosmic beings) and he will increase his evil as he knows his time is short. Therefore, Christians are to expect trials and tribulations before Jesus’ return. Bible also makes it clear our citizenship is in heaven, not this earth. The new age environmental dope smokers want earth to be their home. The little is probably in a much better place. Chapman’s music and life are an inspiration to many and he’s a real hero, as opposed to guys like Obama, secular singers, and most sports athletes.

Troy   November 14th, 2009 - 3:32 am

Look at all the big loud mouth tough people! Using the death of a child to show everyone how hard and cold they can be. Must be lonely still living with your grandparents! Losers!
