We have come to a point were we have to realize that certain realitys exist which make it necessary to protect the freedom loving citizens of the United States from fanatics out to destroy both us and our country. These fanatics are using our founding documents, which were drawn up in a time when no one could forsee todays world, against us. Our freedom of religion clause is a perfect example. It should be amended to read we are, “free to practice any religion that does not call for the subjugation, forced conversion or death of non-believers”. Simple and to the point.

Every religion, at is core, teaches that there are two groups; the righteous and the unrighteous, the believers and the non-beleivers, white spy vs. black spy, innies vs. outies…..you get the idea. The good guys are promised eternal good-stuff while the bad guys are threatened with eternal pain, suffering and torment.
In other words religion is the antithesis of a peaceful and loving society and will continue to be the bane of mankind until evolution eventually kills it off.

I like what it teaches about not taking up arms against an enemy which does not wish to fight. I appreciate many peoples personal faiths and beliefs…but I must agree with you. When it becomes a “religion” people abandon so many of those core beliefs to then oppress those which do not believe.
But there are many people out there ( I hope ) whom have a strong person connection with their higher power yet don’t feel the need to push it upon others.

I appreciate what you’re getting at, but its been a long time since I was that much of a stuffed shirt. Unlike the “god” of islam, I don’t take offense to silly things. I’ve actually got a life and some really amazing things going on these days. I can’t be bothered with nonsense. The muslim “god” clearly has plenty of free time on his hands. Craig, what you missed in your point about the comparative ethics of the bible and the Koran was context. That in itself is an indication of your own agenda. The comparison, which is a familiar one, depends on a wholesale and I would say entirely dishonest disregard of literary form. The Bible presents itself as a record of a people’s experience with God extending over a period of centuries and developing in its perspective over that time from a primitive and at times savage point of view, to an arguably profoundly ethical understanding. We have forms of history, to poetry, philosophy and commentary. All profoundly contexualized and deriving their meaning from the experience of a people. Your own ethic that says let’s be fair here, is I suspect profoundly influenced by the New Testament ethics of Jesus and Paul. The Koran is a different sort of animal – it is to be read (i.e., to find its meaning) as an angelic revelation to one man and that also in a particular historical context. The question is whether you can read those verses in the Bible in both their immediate and larger contexts and take them as exhortations to do violence and then to ask the same question of the Koran. I think the argument of equivalence crumbles pretty quickly with just a modicum of honesty and awareness.
Islam is peace, harmony and depth. Muslims believe in God Almighty, Heaven and Hell, Angels, Destiny and the right of conscience. Muslims wait for Jesus Christ to return in the end days and fight together with the Mahdi against the Antichrist. If a Christian gives up compartmentalisation of God into three and says God is one, technically he is a Muslim. Muslims are ordered by Koran to come to a common point with sincere believer Christians and Jews, to agree on the common beliefs and struggle against Satanism, Materialism, Darwinism and disbelief, against the anti-Christ. It is sad that forces of Antichrist, Satan and disbelief are making believers of the three almost identical faiths fight against each other. Godfearing Muslims, Cristians and Jews are brothers of each other and need each other in this ever atheist, evil-dominated world. Anybody of any religion targets any of the three religions as the enemy, instead of forces of Satanism and Atheism, he himself is working for them, often unknowingly but sometimes knowingly.
